I'm sorry to butt in but I feel the need to clear a misunderstanding.

Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC countries are in dire need of subs. They have been proposed with French subs but we are eager to go for the German ones. I wish we both could engage in JV and come up with more advanced and sophisticated tech. Shah Salman was recently in Indonesia and signed $6.5 billion worth of investment but the head of indonesia was not happy about it.

But rest assured that Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries will always stand behind Indonesia and time will tell.

I don't know what the translation in the video but the president was joking. You can see he was smiling and hear the audience were laughing. Even then, he repeatedly using a hand gesture to show that he was only a tiny bit disappointed. Anyone who understands Indonesian sense of humor will know the president wasn't being serious with what he said. Which is why no Indonesian media sensationalize this, because that would only make them look stupid.

We are grateful with KSA investing in Indonesia so don't worry, brother... Nothing serious.

Salam brother. Yes you are right from his expression I can tell that he was joking and that his was trying to emphasis a point not to ridicule. Thank for the clarification brother. I wish you all the best and may Indonesia prosper and flourish.

The Joint FNSS-Pindad Kaplan MT medium tank was revealed at IDEF-17. The Kaplan MT will replace Indonesia's AMX-13 tanks in the future and this tank could be exported to the Middle east and other Asian Nations.

a joint venture like this reminds me when the firstime Indonesia build CN-235 from scratch to production together with EADS CASA Spain (now Airbus), which is now has become one of the most versatile medium airlifter with many variant available.
Congratulations brother, our future is so bright aheads \~/\~/

Wow I didn't know that Indonesia and Turkey are in JV for military purposes. This indeed promising. Im aware that Indonesia and Spain are also cooperating on aviation specially transport aircraft but just wondering if Indonesia can sell/market without going to back to Spain.

As for the medium tank we developed with Turkey for starts it will focused on Indonesian market to replace our old AMX and Scorpion light tanks. so the requirements is about 200-400 medium tank estimated for Indonesian Army modernization program. Soon after that then we start to think for selling it abroad. But I'm confident enough every Army in the world need tanks. Specially if cheap enough for them to afford it.

First AH-64E Apache Guardian for Indonesia arrives from US
By: Mike Yeo
18 Dec 2017

MELBOURNE, Australia — The first Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter for Indonesia has arrived from the United States as the company continues to market the CH-47 Chinook heavy lift helicopter to the Southeast Asian country.

Sources in Indonesia say the helicopter was flown in by a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III airlifter to Semarang on the north-central part of Indonesia’s main island of Java on Monday, having departed the U.S. late last week.

Indonesia requested eight Apache Guardians under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program in September 2012, along with associated equipment and spares that included the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-78 Longbow Fire Control Radar and 140 Lockheed Martin AGM-114R3 anti-tank missiles, for an estimated total value of $1.42 billion.

According to the FMS request, Indonesia will use the helicopters to “defend its borders, conduct counterterrorism and counter-piracy operations, and control the free flow of shipping through the strategic Straits of Malacca.” Indonesia’s previous Army chief of staff, Gen. Budiman, said at least some of the Apaches would be stationed at the Natuna Islands bordering the South China Sea.

The resource-rich area around the islands holds the world’s largest untapped reserves of natural gas, and it is also where China’s “nine-dash line” claim over the South China Sea partially overlaps Indonesia’s exclusive economic zone, or EEZ.

Although not a claimant to the disputed islands in the area, Indonesia has had problems with fishermen from neighboring countries illegally operating within its EEZ and has skirmished with the coast guards of Vietnam and China.

Meanwhile, it was announced last week that Indonesian Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu has met with Boeing Defence and Space’s regional director and vice president for Indonesia and Malaysia, Yeong Tae Pak, at Indonesia’s capital Jakarta where they discussed the potential for cooperation in defense procurement.

According to Indonesia’s Defence Ministry, these included comprehensive details of how Boeing’s offset program can be lined up with Indonesia’s desire to advance its domestic defense industry. The country has sought to broaden its capabilities and participation in this sector, and has entered agreements with several partners in designing, manufacturing and sustaining defense articles that include light tanks and helicopters.

Pak also highlighted the multimission capabilities of the Chinook helicopter in roles ranging from special forces support to disaster relief, according to the ministry’s announcement. Indonesia has previously highlighted its need for a heavy lift helicopter to support Army operations, and the Chinook has been touted as a likely choice; however, this has yet to be translated into an actual sale for Boeing.

Indonesia receives first AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter
Dec 19, 2017
by Bilal Khan

The Indonesian Army (Tentara Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Darat: TNI-AD) took delivery of its first three Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters from the U.S. on December 18.

Indonesia sought eight AH-64E in 2012 in a $1.42 billion U.S. deal that includes 140 AGM-114R3 Hellfire II anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), 19 General Electric T-700-GE-701D turboshaft engines, training, spare parts and logistical support.

The AH-64E is the latest variant of the Apache, a heavyweight attack helicopter platform capable of anti-armour and anti-infantry operations. It is the mainstay attack helicopter of the U.S. Army as well as the U.K., Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Israel and others.
Jakarta formally inked the deal when the U.S. Defense Department issued a $296 million order to Boeing manufacture the helicopters. Indonesia, along with Qatar and India, is among the Apache Guardian’s new customers with orders on Boeing’s current orderbook.
Leveraging its defence and civil deals, the Indonesian government is hoping that Boeing will invest in the country with offsets and co-production workshare.

Speaking to local media, Indonesia’s Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said, “Now Boeing is operating an office in Singapore. They should also have it [in Indonesia],” adding, “they [Boeing] also need to think about having an assembly plant here to build some parts of the planes.”

The TNI-AD is reportedly in talks with Boeing for the possible purchase of CH-47F Chinook heavy transport and utility helicopters. The CH-47F has a maximum take-off weight of 22.6 tons and a payload capacity of 10.9 tons. It can travel a cruise speed of 291 km/h and has an operational radius of 370.4 km.

If brought to fruition, a Chinook deal would begin building the logistics element of Indonesia’s widespread airpower modernization efforts, which are seeing the induction of new attack assets in the form of the AH-64E and refurbished F-16C/D Block-25 from the U.S. Jakarta also has 11 Su-35 from Russia on order.

The Indonesian Navy commissioned its second SIGMA 10514 guided missile frigate – KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai – in a ceremony at Benoa Harbor on January 10.

The vessel, which received pennant number 332, was delivered to the Indonesian Navy by shipbuilder PT PAL who worked with Dutch shipbuilder Damen under a transfer of technology agreement.

The SIGMA 10514 is a project initiated in August 2010 by the Indonesian Ministry of Defence. Damen was awarded a contract for the construction of the first SIGMA 10514 PKR in December 2010.

SIGMA frigates are also referred to as Perusak Kawal Rudal-class guided-missile frigates in Indonesia.

The 105-metre, 2,365 tonne PKR frigates are designed to undertake a range of missions in and beyond Indonesian waters. Their primary mission is anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. However, they are also equipped for maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian support tasks.

They are fitted with OTO Melara’s 76/62 mm Super Rapid gun, MBDA’s SSM Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship and MICA anti-air missiles.

PKR-class frigates also come with A-244S torpedoes and Terma’s SKWS Decoy Launching System. Two rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) will be aboard for rescue and patrol operations.

The vessels’ propulsion system is a combined diesel or electric (CODOE) configuration which consists of two 10,000kW maximum continuous rating (MCR) diesel engines, two 1,300kW electric motors, two double input gearboxes and two 3.65 metre controllable pitch propellers.
