In Coimbatore we place a high value (traditionally) on being polite and well mannered (and the language of course accomodates that, we use the polite register with strangers+elders, whereas Chennai equivalent uses first name basis register as default which generally we find quite revolting and frankly lazy)...and also we do things somewhat leisurely overall (buying something can get quite conversational on all kind of topics). The weather itself was always quite nice given the calm fragrant air from the Nilgiris. Its all changing for the worse now with way more urbanisation and displacement of the rural and semi rural areas that dotted around the area (my ancestral home used to have forest right next to it where deer used to be when my mom was a small girl, now its city for miles), but there is enough inertia still from before I feel in lot of things still....especially when I see how other parts have changed even more.

Honestly I dont subscribe to the whole andhra to the north thing (and telugus were majority in Madras history for long periods) having much credence for the origins of the Chennai attitude. Its just cosmopolitan city, everything gets mixed, there is not much stoic root culture to ground etc...and people want to say things using one or two words than taking time to structure and be polite etc....again by product of the city commerce etc (I saw same kind of thing regarding the Cantonese in Hong Kong compared to the rural parts of Canton in mainland China).

Many telugu speaking/origin Chennai-ites are known to me, they are very nice people overall and they have contributed much to Chennai area and serve as a strong bridge with another massive and equally significant (and surpasses ours in many ways I feel) southern culture. No real issue with them.

Well, I bloody live there, in their midst; no issues with them, except that you need to sneak into the kitchen and chuck the chilli powder and the gongkura down the drain. And quite a robust attitude towards sex; it is amusing to see them puzzling over northern hypocrisy.

Usually, the multitalented ganja type comes from that side, and they know everything. I had one guy in college who was fond of idukki gold. He was from Nilgiri too.

hehe no, not the Tamil version, I read translated Malayalam version in school library years back, the time I had interest in the Malayalam language. I just read it somewhere, Tirukkural has one of the classical Tamil usages and I can see how language developed over the years. But I never had a chance to learn Tamil.

There was that hilarious occasion when we went to a Kalakshetram evening; we were living close by then. First, Rukmini Devi with her version of Tamil, of which I understood every word, and which the audience obviously heard through with sympathy and affection. Then the DMK guest of honour, who unleashed a barrage of Shen Tamil, and had us all ducking under our chairs. Honestly, I personally didn't get a word; my wife was left with a pale look on her face, the audience heard him through in pin-drop silence and followed his speech with dutiful, very thoughtful applause.

Bwahahaha, well said old chap. I am sure especially a Bengali will find it more severe than most.

I do miss Gongura pickle here in Canada, it was quite easy to get when I was in Singapore in comparison. Of course it was used in reasonable amounts

... very nice to have with peserattu.

Yeah, well, I now am practising massive retaliation with Mrs. Giri's cookbook. And without the Gongkura. It is deeply satisfying to see the looks on those buggers' faces after lunch, when they find they can't take a leak until some time has passed.

Hehe yep the sen tamil you have to specifically learn somewhat...it has very precise verb conjugation (that pretty much gone from vernacular tamil these days in interest of speed) and they will purposely choose the vocab as far away from Sanskrit they can find in the literature, no matter how archaic it is. But hey it helps me learn some new words each time I hear it. In a way sen Tamil is much closer to the formal written Tamil form.

Native speaker can fill in blanks somewhat mostly when someone speaking it...but yes it will be hard for others, and its hard many times for me too.

Actually this condition "Ringing Ears" is mainly caused by exposure to continuous noise, your system somehow activates and triggers this continuous ringing sound in your ears ....... there is no cure for this.

I am suffering from it and got meself checked by multiple ENT specialists ..... none of them was able to tell me that I am suffering from tinnitus. It was only when I by chance landed upon an article related to this.

However, by my own personal experience .......... I have been able to reduce / mitigate and suppress this condition to some extent (it didn't go away but still I have found some relief) ......... What I do is I have started chewing gum ........ specially when you are exercising, running, jogging or hitting the gym ........ chewing gum during that time reduces the condition and sometimes totally vanishes it.

I chew like three to four gums in a day ........... if someone or his / her relative is suffering from this ........... I would recommend to try what I do and see if it helps. May God bless us all.

Do you have any medical history or do you currently take any medication? Has CT been performed?
