Egypt is interested in purchasing S-400

Atef E Saadawy, the managing editor of Al Ahram said “Military Corporation between Egypt and Russia reached unprecedented levels. The new agreement to exchange military bases will greatly boost strategic ties between both countries. We are also expecting a new arms purchase to be announced. Egypt has been interested to buy the S400 long-range missile for a long time.

as an additional note, Egypt also has interest in acquiring the Pantsir-S1 and BUK-M3 from Russia.

is Egypt only planning buying the Pantsir-S1 for the S-400 or also the Antey-2500? the Pantsir-S1 is usually used to protect major SAM sites such as the S-400.
also on note, how many batteries are the Egyptian air defense planning for the BUK-M3, I am actually very impressed that Egypt is buying all these major SAMs.

we want to acquire an unknown amount of Pantsir-S1s, the last time I checked it was near 50 of them, but the Pantsir-S1s will be used to protect all S-400, S-300VM sites we have setup. as for the BUK-M3 I do not know how many batteries would be acquired but I would say at least 2 batteries, if not more, we are starting to replace our ageing USSR Weapons with newer NATO and Russian weaponry.

Nice, If Egypt acquired the s-400 it will have a very strong air defense system in region. I just hope the deal goes through but as always the US will jump the gun trying to stop the deal in return for the patriot system but Egypt can put some pressure to get the THAAD.

we already operate Patriot SAMs, and the S-400 is really being looked at being acquired, I did read a while ago on some site (which I will need time to find again) where we also had interest in the THAAD system, but overall I believe the S-400 will be acquired before the THAAD.

Actually we had to use the S-400 card to put pressure to get the THAAD and we finally got both. I think Egypt is aiming for both as well.

I do not know why we would need both considering our Antey-2500s have ABM/Anti-Ballistic Missile capability already, plus I believe even S-400 can be used for ABM too, what we really need is a long range strike jet more then 100's of AD systems

The F-35 has been introduced to the region, the s-400 has become very essential.
