'MP Willy Borsus assured that the Belgium weapons sold to Saudi Arabia were under no means meant to be used outside of the country, and all sales were since 2017 only allowed to go to the national guard, who was reportedly not involved with the war in Yemen. But evidence has shown that the Saudi national guard is in actuality very much active in Yemen...also uncovered were Canadian made armored vehicles with Belgium made weapons from CMI Defense....another incident was where the Houthis were using Belgium made FN F2000, which was apparently captured by them from the national guard'

Excuse me but I find this very funny. The national guards of any country are the first responders. What are the Belgiums smoking?

I think it's fake news.

National Guard units, are not the only ones using them. It is "one of the units."

The National Guard is not deployed outside of Saudi Arabia. It is stationed along the border only. The FN-2000 is only used by one unit and will most likely be phased out. Belgium has not right whatsoever to protest. The Saudi bought with their own money and there was no string attached to the deal. If bought weapons are not used to protect oneself then what is the purpose? Belgium can pound salt even if Saudi Arabia used Belgium made weapons inside Yemen. They should understand that Saudi Arabia is acting legitimately according to the UN resolution 2216. This media campaign and the so called human rights activists mouth running are not going to achieve anything. Saudi Arabia will take whatever measures necessary to protect itself, to support the legitimate government in Yemen and to throw the Houthis out of it period.

Also outside the country?
Apparently they were able to circumvent not selling anything completely, by convincing the government that the sales to the national guard would only be used by them to 'protect the royal family and defend the borders from attacks' and thus Belgium weaponry would in no way become controversial by the guardsmen themselves using it inside Yemen.

Well the concern in Brussels is that they can not and do not want to be complicit in any way. the European commission, EU Parliament (who urged all member states for a complete embargo) are all on a country's back continuously urging them to abide.
Thus far, France is the only one not abiding by anything, until Germany made them abide by completely blocking all German weaponry, which indirectly affected France as well (England also, but they are soon no longer in the EU, so that's more complicated).

Protection of the Royal family is NOT the job of the Royal Saudi National Guard, it's the job of an elite unit of the Royal Saudi Army, known as the Royal Saudi Guards, who are a blend of bodyguards + special forces. Their job is not limited to only the Royal family, but key members of the Govt as well.

So this narrative of selling to SANG, for the protection of the royal family, doesn't fly.

I see, perhaps that's where the miscommunication or perhaps deliberate misleading of the Belgium parliament was.
either way, the PM has ordered a full investigation based on the media reports, we'll know soon enough

What I said before is not a secret, so misleading anyone is very big question mark.

The National Guard which is equivalent to US Homeland Security is completely independent from the Saudi Royal Guard Regiment which is a branch of the Saudi Armed forces. There is no miscommunication, it's just that Saudi Arabia name somehow became a football in the EU politics and a part of election campaigns. You want to win an election, SAY out loud "Saudi-Arabië" Also the EU with all due respect have no moral grounds to stand on. Let's keep it here no need to get deep into details. Average EU citizens have no interest in politics. They care about rent, insurance, prescription drugs, retirement..etc. Basically easily to be fooled.

That last part is quite inaccurate, especially since protestors across all of Europe showed up to hinder and block a Saudi ship from loading European weapons to take back and have strongly voiced their dismay with government officials defending the licensing of deadly arms to Saudi Arabia. Not to forget the fact that not one official is standing up to voice protest against this, it is the people who are protesting the already elected and ruling governments involvement in this.
Except for Merkel of course, but since she is already on her way out, the theory that she is doing so to win next elections also doesn't make much sense.

My friend, if arms couldn't be loaded on one ship, doesn't mean the arms manufacturer will sit idle. Those arms will be delivered.

No one will be willing to loose multi-million / billion $ deals, which directly translate into jobs!

That wasn't the idea behind the remark. It was more in reference to his remark that people in Europe do not care about these things and that it's only for political gains.
