Musk said via Twitter that Tesla "will build batteries, powertrains and vehicles, starting with Model Y" lower-priced sports utility vehicle at the factory.​

Musk is visiting Berlin for the annual Goldene Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel) automotive awards organized by car magazine Autobild, an offshoot of the daily Bild.

According to Bild, Musk said the factory would be built near the construction site of the unfinished Berlin airport. Musk made the announcement after the Tesla Model 3 snatched the award for the best car in the middle/upper vehicle class.

"Everyone knows German engineering is outstanding for sure. You know that is part of the reason why we are locating Gigafactory Europe in Germany," Musk said at the awards.

"That means we will treat all players who invest in Germany equally and without discrimination," he said.

"Tesla's decision to build an ultramodern factory for electric cars in Germany is further proof of the appeal of Germany as an automotive hub," Altmaier said.

IG Metall, Germany's biggest labour union, welcomed the plan. "This strengthens Berlin as an industrial location and creates jobs. We hope this sets an example," Birgit Dietze, IG Metall's regional head, said.

Musk has been speculating on a European production site for several years, and various European countries have mounted campaigns to lure the manufacturer to their soil. Tesla also considered multiple sites within Germany, with Musk saying that "the German-French border makes sense" as a factory loca​

The Tesla compound in Berlin would be designated as Gigafactory 4, following the Gigafactory 1 in the US state of Nevada, Gigafactory 2 in the state of New York, and the yet-unfinished Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai.​

"Tesla is coming to Brandenburg with a big investment," Dietmar Woidke, state premier of Brandenburg, which encompasses Berlin, said in a statement. "We lobbied for this for a long time in intensive talks and with good arguments."​

Woidke told broadcaster RBB that the decision was a "huge success" that was helped by the fact that Brandenburg had guaranteed access to renewable energy in the future. He evaded questions on the extent to which Tesla would recieve subsidies.​

"We are operating within the framework of the European Union's state aid rules. That applies to all countries in Europe, that is the framework we have. Of course we will do our best to create good conditions for Tesla in accordance with these possibilities."​

It is very worrisome yes, however I don't see the "down spout" lasting long. A lot of this is because of Merkel's behavior, however Karrenbauer (our future Chancellor) has mentioned she plans to reverse a lot of Merkel's policies and starting driving the export up. the other problem though, that hits us, is the shutting down the coal plants (that will hit us really severely). for instance, it will hit North Rhine Westphalia, however they been focusing on other industries so it may leave an impact but not to severe, however the Saarland, their economy might be completely crippled due to the fact, that's one of their largest industries and not really focusing on other means for state growth. we will have to wait and see my friend

that’s investigating the possibilities of a direct train connection between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf thinks that this should be possible by 2025. A letter-of-intent has been prepared and will be signed by all parties in March.

A direct intercity service between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf is one of the core elements of EurekaRail, a joint project of the provincial authorities of Noord-Brabant and Limburg and the Ministry of I&W to promote cross-border trains. 2025 must be feasible because in that year new concessions will be issued in both Germany and the Netherlands. Railway operators can then pitch for the international connection between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf. The German government will play the leading role in this, but Dutch carriers will also be able to bid for the concession​
