Rheinmetall announced at Eurosatory 2016 an updated version of the 35 mm Oerlikon Revolver Gun mounting that integrates the sensor/tracking package directly onto the top of its turret.
The gun mounting makes up one of the components of the company's Skyshield Air Defence System (ADS).
The package is comprised of an IEEE X-band (NATO I/J-band) tracking radar and electro-optic sensor suite, in addition to electronic warfare components. The package is linked directly to the gun mounting's fire control computer, giving the system a localised surveillance and target engagement capability.
Each gun mounting can be controlled from a higher-echelon command post, or from a local manned fire control unit (FCU) to which up to eight guns can be connected.
