Key Points
  • Indonesia is acquiring a fourth KCR-60M missile-armed fast attack craft
  • Vessels in the class will be equipped with a Chinese-developed combat management system
The Indonesian government has placed an order for a fourth KCR-60M-class missile-armed fast attack craft, PT PAL officials told IHS Jane's during a visit to the shipyard on 8 March.

"Although a contract for the vessel has not yet been signed, we have been given instructions to build it. A formal contract is expected very soon, most probably in the next few months," said Tjahjono Yudo, general manager of corporate strategic planning at the state-owned shipyard.

The Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL) currently operates a fleet of three KCR-60M vessels, which were commissioned between May and September 2014. According to IHS Jane's Fighting Ships , the class has an overall length of 59.8 m, an overall beam of 8.1 m, and a hull draught of 2.6 m. The platform has a top speed of 28 kt and a standard range of 2,400 n miles at 20 kt.

The platform is armed with a 57 mm main gun as a primary weapon and two stern-facing 20 mm guns. It can also carry up to four Chinese-made C-705 anti-ship missiles to prosecute surface targets.

The deal for a fourth vessel is also expected to include a contract to install a Chinese-developed combat management system (CMS) on the first three KCR-60M ships, said Tjahjono. The installation will involve foreign and local defence contractors but PT PAL will take the lead in integrating the CMS with existing systems onboard the platform, he added.
