The Otomat is a long-range missile, joint Italy-France, initially developed by the consortium Oto Melara-Matra (hence the name Otomat) then merged into the group MBDA, a subsidiary of Leonardo. The missile was widely used by the Italian Navy.
The main feature of the missile, the long range, is obtained with a French turbine engine Microturbo, which allows a range of over 180 km with a head of 210 kg, for a total weight of about 800 kg. It is a very powerful missile, but not suitable for aircraft or submarines.
