Qatar is located in an area of critical military and geopolitical importance and has recently liased with the US Defence and Security Cooperation Agency for the purchase of RIM-116C AND RIM-116-2 Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) . The proposed sale will boost Qatar's defences for its gas and oil infrastructure from air and missile threats. These missiles have the capability of tracking antiship cruise missiles and other surface threats. Gulf countries have been on a shopping spree as they seek to strengthen their stranglehold on vital installations against the psychological threat of a resurgent Iran and opposition majority groups.
