Now that China is seeking to dominate their immediate region. There now seems some sort of cooperation between Japan and the Philippines which is seeking to Counter the Chinese aggression. However, the tide has turned and it's now the Chinese who are seeking to become the dominant force as opposed to the World War 11 era when the Japanese dominated and massacred thousands of Chinese and Philippine citizens amongst people from other countries in the region. The good thing is that The Chinese have not invaded the Philippines. However, the Philippines out of fear of the Chinese has found it necessary to side with Japan which was once their bitter enemy and great oppressor.

Neither of them actually fear a "Chinese invasion". China's claim is quite clear. They have always claimed the islands in dispute. Both countries have separated disputes with China on some island issues. They are just using each other to divert attention of China.

As for the "Chinese aggression" talk, lets check out the map on the disputes between China and Japan.

Note that even "Ryukyu islands" (Okinawa) was originally Kingdom of Ryukyu until Japan illegally invaded and took them over in 1879. Then Japan went further in their conquest by invading Korea. China (Qing Dynasty back then) got involved when Japan suddenly sneak attack and sank a ship full of Chinese infantry along with one of its escort warships. The war was declared, but China was defeated eventually... as a result, China had to give up Taiwan to Japan. So Japan took over the islands in dispute at the same time (1895).

After WWII, Japan are supposed to return everything they conquered.

Anyway, I know how the news often reported how many hundred times Japanese air force had to intercept Chinese aircraft. The truth is, Japan has an ADIZ right in China's face. Chinese aircraft flying near their own coast is getting intercepted on daily basis as "Chinese aggression". Check out the following map for ADIZ.
