Turkey’s leading defence electronics company Aselsan (Hall 1, Stand A103) is seeking to further strengthen its ties with the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), through offering to meet the country’s border security requirements with its vast array of night vision and thermal imaging systems.
The completion of the joint venture company Aselsan Middle East PSC Ltd (AME) (Hall 5, Stand A512), established at the last SOFEX in partnership with KADDB Investment Group (KIG), has already led to the signing of contracts for its SAGER thermal sight for the JAF’s Kornet E anti-tank missile, as well as for various types of thermal and night vision equipment.
In September 2013, a memorandum of understanding was signed between KADDB, AME and Aselsan/Turkey for a yet to be detailed defence development project.
KIG has 51 per cent of the shares in AME, with Aselsan holding the remainder. AME is located at the KADDB Industrial Park at Dulail.
Aselsan is headquartered at Yenimahalle-Ankara, Turkey, and is organised into four divisions – communications and information technology; defence systems technologies; microelectronics, guidance and electro-optics; and radar, electronic warfare and intelligence systems. It has annual revenues exceeding $900 million.
Among its many successes on the domestic and international markets have been the integrated mobile reconnaissance system for the mountainous region of the Turkish border, and the architecture design and software development for the European Union TALOS border protection system.
In October 2013, the company signed a contract with the Uruguayan Army for the provision of the ARSLAN reconnaissance and surveillance Land Rover, which will incorporate its command and control (C2) software, ACAR ground surveillance radar and electro-optical systems. Aselsan proposes adaptable and modular system solutions that can be tailored according to the emerging threats, mission requirements and operational scenarios following a detailed analysis of the user requirements.
Throughout the lifecycle of its systems, Aselsan provides integrated logistics support to guarantee system availability at all times. Moreover, with the open architecture structure of its systems, the company aims at standardisation of products, seeking to decrease logistics support effort by considering the use of existing products in the inventory and strive for interoperability of Aselsan solutions with the user’s existing security systems if available.
Aselsan uses its own C2 software, coastal surveillance radar for coastal/maritime surveillance, ground surveillance radar for ground-based/land surveillance, electro-optical products, inertial navigation systems, communication systems and more, to form a ‘System of Systems’.
