Trump recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital
By Jeremy Diamond, CNN
Updated 1820 GMT December 06, 2017

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Wednesday and announced plans to relocate the US embassy there, a move expected to inflame tensions in the region and unsettle the prospects for peace.

"I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," Trump said from White House's Diplomatic Reception Room. "After more than two decades of waivers, we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians."

The move signaled a willingness on Trump's part to prioritize fulfilling a campaign promise over the consensus among US allies in the region and beyond that the decision could stymie the peace process and increase security risks in a region that is already on edge.
"Today, I am delivering," Trump said, referencing his campaign promise.

In calls with Trump on Tuesday, Arab leaders in the region and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed deep misgivings about Trump's move and urged him to reconsider.

Trump's decision, previewed Tuesday by senior administration officials, upends decades of policy from successive Republican and Democratic administrations that have said the status of Jerusalem should be left up to a final status agreement negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians.

Trump said Wednesday he is ordering the State Department "to begin preparations to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem."
But senior officials said he will again sign a waiver to keep the US embassy in Tel Aviv for the time being as they estimate it will take years before a new embassy can open in Jerusalem.

Trump said his order to the State Department will begin the process of hiring architects and building contractors to build an embassy that will be a "a magnificent tribute to peace."

So Trump did what he was going to do! Let’s see how the world reacts to this.
The world will howl and cry, then settle down. This action will not be reversed.

A unilateral decision is not going to make a difference anyway. No sane is going to follow Trump in his decision. He would set there by himself and then back up.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Royal Court Issues a Statement Following Jerusalem Announcement
NEWS PROVIDED BY

Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia
20:55 ET

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia followed, with great disappointment, the announcement made by the President of the United States Donald Trump, recognizing Jerusalemas the capital of Israel and relocating the United States' embassy to Jerusalem.

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had previously warned of the serious consequences of such an irresponsible and unwarranted step. The Kingdom expresses its denunciation and deep regret that the administration has taken this step, as it represents a great bias against the historic and permanent rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, which have been affirmed by the relevant international resolutions and have been recognized and supported by the international community.

Although this step does not change or infringe upon the inalienable and preserved rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, and other occupied territories, and even though it cannot impose a new reality upon those rights, it does however exemplify a drastic regression in the efforts to move the peace process forward, and is a shift away from the United States' historically impartial position with regard to the issue of Jerusalem, which will further complicate the Palestinian -Israeli conflict.

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hopes that the U.S administration will reverse this action, and support the international will to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights. Furthermore, the Kingdom reaffirms the importance of finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause in accordance with the relevant international resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative, so that the Palestinian people can regain their legitimate rights, which will strengthen security and stability in the region.

Why did Turkey used Jerusalem and not Tel Aviv?

I hope it doesn't turn into storming embassies or indulging in violence. Muslims have the right to protest the move peacefully. I hope the dump administration revised the decision and engage in peace talk to the reach a fair settlement.
