Paris shootings and explosions near Stade de France kill 18 - BBC News

At least 18 people have been killed in several shootings in the French capital, Paris, as well as explosions near the Stade de France.

At least one man opened fire with an automatic gun at the Petit Cambodge restaurant in the 11th district.

Shooting has also been heard near the Bataclan arts centre with reports of hostages have been taken there.

Three explosions are also reported outside a bar near the Stade de France, where France were hosting Germany.

Reports say French President Francois Hollande was watching the match and has been moved to safety.

A BBC journalist at the Petit Cambodge restaurant says he can see 10 people on the road either dead or seriously injured.

He says police have now arrived and sealed off the area.

An eyewitness told Liberation he had heard more than 100 rounds being fired at a cafe in rue de Charonne.

By Staff writer, Al Arabiya News Saturday, 14 November 2015

France's borders have been closed, a nation-wide state of emergency has been declared, and the army has been employed around Paris after at least 60 people were killed and 60 injured as multiple shootings, explosions and a 100-person hostage crisis rocked the French capital Paris late on Friday.

The drastic measures were announced by French President Francios Hollande who made a televised address on late Friday evening, just minutes before midnight.

Police expect the death toll - which has fluctuated from between 40 to 60 since the attacks began - to further increase.

Police said they had exchanged fire with gunmen at the Bataclan concert hall, where around 100 people are believed to be held hostage.

The shooting at the Bataclan began one hour into a rock concert, BFM TV said, adding that one or two people came in and began shooting in the air.

Almost immediately after, Europe 1 radio reported another shooting, at the Central Les Halles shopping mall.

At one of the attacks, at a Paris stadium, footage taken of the game between France and Germany in a Paris stadium appeared to show the moment when a bomb went off. Police say that at least one suicide bomber had detonated a bomb outside the stadium.

Another attack was reported at a Cambodian restaurant called Petit Cambodge, not far from the Bataclan venue in northeast Paris.

It is not immediately clear whether the attacks were coordinated, or what group is responsible.

Al Arabiya's correspondent in Paris said that authorities had blocked off roads in the center of the capital.

The Paris municipality has asked Parisians to stay home.

The shock attacks have prompted an emergency meeting by French government ministers.

Previously, the death toll was 15 at the Paris concert hall, and 3 near a stadium, where two blasts reportedly took place.

Several people were also killed and several others wounded after a shooting took place in a restaurant in central Paris.

At the Paris stadium, President Francois Hollande had to be evacuated as he was watching a match between France and Germany, Al Arabiya News Channel correspondent reported.

French President Hollande, and his interior minister have rushed to the interior ministry to keep track of events, Hollande’s office said.

French security forces cordoned off the stadium area and Hollande was evacuated.

U.S. security officails believe that the attacks were coordinated.

The attacks, whose motive was not immediately clear, came less than a year after radical gunmen killed 17 people in attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish supermarket.

French authorities have been on high alert since the January attacks, and the country has been named as a priority target by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants.

Several attacks have been foiled since January.

I read online that it was reported that one witness stated that they heard Allah Akabar or however it is spelled. I think I seen that on the NYTimes page about the attacks.

Over 160 dead. France has declared a state of emergency.

Some heartless folks are actually celebrating.

ISIS Supporters Celebrate Paris Attacks
ISIS adherents began celebrating the horrific terror attacks across Paris late Friday creating hashtags declaring “Paris in flames” well before the devastating scope of the worst attacks to hit France since World War II was clear to the world.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the brutal violence which began about 4 p.m. ET. But ISIS adherents quickly encouraged the terror organization to take official responsibility. “Allah Akbar, the horror arrived to the forts of the Cross #Paris. ISIS should claim responsibility for the operation to show the world that Muslims have heavy feet,” one tweet said.

Disgusting stuff.

I suppose now the EU will no longer allow genuine refugees to cross over into Europe.

Oh, no, what a sad news. As of the latest post in this thread by @Redheart, 160 were dead, killed by the expolosions and gunfire. ISIS adherents are in jubilation over what happened. Am I reading correctly? I thought ISIS is a Islamic movement for their religion? Is that their jihad, to kill innocent people who has nothing to do with their politics? Indeed, this is a sad day for the whole world, a day of reckoning that we should hold hands and fight this demon called ISIS.
