On 10 March, Argentina officially started a new project to build and utilise unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The government's official bulletin stated that a contract had been signed between the Ministry of Defence and state company INVAP to launch the Argentine Air Robotics System (SARA) programme.
SARA is a military-oriented project intended to build two UAV types - a Class II and a Class III - for defence and patrolling purposes.
The contract, published as 'Administrative Decision 1/2015', stipulates that at least USD238 million is to be invested over six years for the prototypes' construction. Once SARA's development goals are met, a new contract will be signed to begin mass production.
