The Brigadier San Martin Argentine Aircraft Factory (Fabrica Argentina de Aviones: FAdeA) has begun development of a new basic trainer aircraft, designated the IA-100, according to Santiago Rodriguez, president of the General Directorate of Military Manufactures (Dirección General de Fabricaciones Militares: DGFM).

Rodriguez confirmed the IA-100's development on 27 July, noting that this sort of aerospace programme has not happened in Argentina for over 20 years. The IA-100 will be marketed to military users, but will have an aerobatic version for the civilian market. He said it is being designed with 100% Argentine engineering and 60% of its components are to be sourced from local small businesses in the aerospace and technology sectors.
