I think it is because they are not loaded with those Active armour Protection kits/stuff on sides & front at the moment. This could be one of the reasons. Any Tank expert here ?

That too and I meant geometry wise. It looks like an out dated design compared to let's say the VT4

Looks like Al-Khalid1 has a smaller, narrower turret than VT4 and it may be lower in height. Would it mean improved survivability and it is harder to target?

Al Khalid-I tank inducted in Armoured Corps Regiment

ISLAMABAD: The Army on Tuesday inducted Al Khalid-I main battle tank in Armoured Corps Regiment.

The handing over ceremony of the tank, which is an upgraded version of Al Khalid tank, was held at Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), the largest state-owned manufacturer of defence products.

Army Chief Gen Qamar Bajwa was the chief guest at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Gen Bajwa said Pakistan, if provoked by the adversary — a reference to India — would respond with full force.

“Our defence preparation and operational readiness is to ensure peace within and peace without. However, if provoked we shall respond and respond with all our might,” the army chief declared.

Relations between arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been very tense since the military standoff last year in February and March and the subsequent annexation of Occupied Kashmir by India.

Pakistani analysts fear that India, which has failed to restore normality to Occupied Kashmir since its annexation, is being pushed towards a conflict with Pakistan by a confluence of military, health and economic crises, which have badly dented Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s standing at home.

Gen Bajwa emphasised the need for bolstering defence and operational preparedness and said there was a dire need of enhancing indigenous defence production in evolving security environment.

Al Khalid-I has been developed in collaboration with China and Ukraine.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the tank, during the ceremony, exhibited some of its “outstanding capabilities”, including mobility, speed, bi-axis gun stabilisation of the control system and use of smoke screen to mask movement.

According to information about the tank on HIT’s website, it is equipped with enhanced protection against smart ammunition and other forms of top attacks. The tank has improved Muzzle Reference System, Solid State Auto Loader, Improved Radiation Detector and independent and effective command and control system for deeper and long-distance operations.

The website further states that the tank is capable of sustainable operations in nuclear environment because of it life support system. It says the tank has been developed for “higher strategic and tactical mobility”. It is also said to be capable of fighting in built up areas or the urban warfare.

The ISPR said Al Khalid-I will be handed over to formations which have critical and decisive role during wars.

HIT Chairman Major General Syed Aamer Raza highlighted the ongoing projects, achievements of his organisation and its contribution to defence production in pursuit of self-reliance.

It absolutely baffles me to find no ERA on these tanks despite the fact that it's part of the standard equipment now
Hope they have an APS to say the least
Almost all of the 80's 90's era Russian tanks are covered extensively with ERA
Meanwhile we are manufacturing tanks in 2020 with turrets vulnerable to the most basic of the tank rounds let alone APFSDS

Maybe, I have no idea though. Everything is so sensitive and secret. There are practically no imagines available to compare it with other tanks.

The images above arent great to work with

Heavy and expensive: why the Turkish Altay tank did not fit Pakistan?
By TOC On Jul 30, 2020

ISLAMABAD, (BM) – While modernizing their armored forces, the Pakistani military command has been eyeing Turkish Altay main battle tanks. However, it has now been decided to purchase Chinese VT-4s, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

Why this happened, explained the Pakstrategic website. The big drawback of the novelty of the Turkish military-industrial complex is its significant weight, exceeding 60 tons.

This is considered a major disadvantage for mountain and desert operations. In terms of mobility, Altay is significantly inferior to the tanks produced by the local industry Al-Khalid, Al-Zarrar and samples from China.
It is noted that a 120-mm cannon is installed on a Turkish armored vehicle, while the main tank caliber in the Pakistani army is 125 mm. Manufacturing or purchasing new ammunition will take a long time and cost too much money.
The tank also has a 1,500-horsepower German engine, and for political reasons, it is unlikely that permission will be obtained to export such power plants to Pakistan. Prospects for creating your own 1800 hp engine very foggy.
There are also big questions about the price, and it is significant – the cost of one unit already reaches $ 13.75 million.
In the spring of this year, it became known about a deal for Pakistan to purchase 300 VT-4 tanks manufactured in China. The contract amount is estimated at $ 860 million.

Military cooperation between these two countries in the field of armored vehicles began in the 60s and a significant part of the fleet is made up of combat vehicles purchased from China or created with the help of specialists from this state.
Briefly about Turkish Altay tank
In 2007, the Turkish Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with Otokar to create the Altay AHT main battle tank. The tank received its name in honor of General of the Army Fakhrettin Altai. The new tank is intended to replace the German Leopards and American M60s.
There are several reasons for creating a new tank. Firstly, a combat vehicle of its own production will be cheaper. Secondly, Turkey’s policy has led to complications with NATO countries, which can completely stop the supply of weapons and components for the Turkish army.
In addition, Turkey hopes that in the future the tank will be supplied not only for the army, but also for export.
When creating the tank, foreign experience was used, more than 60% of technologies were borrowed from foreign companies (Germany and South Korea). After showing “Altay” at the exhibition, many noticed the similarity of the Turkish tank with the South Korean K2 Black Panther (Black Panther).

The mass of the new vehicle is around 60 tons. The booking will be combined, multi-layered with elements of active armor.

Altay is armed with a 120mm MKEK120 smoothbore cannon assembled under license from Hyundai Rotem (South Korea). The aimed firing range is 3 km. Additionally, a remote module with a 12.7mm machine gun is installed on the turret. Serial production of the tank has already begun and an order for 250 vehicles has been received.
On the whole, the opinion of experts is unanimous that while Altay looks very impressive, it loses to the Russian T-90A and the German Leopard-2. Turkey will need time to gain experience in the creation of tanks.

if that is the case and the same army objecting, why was the case different for T-129?
