Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Gorely said that the South China sea is a very important area for Australia. They are working closely with the claimants in the South China Sea particularly with the Philippines to reduce the tension in the disputed region which is the Spratlys.

Canberra's top diplomat together with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and foreign minister Julie Bishop called for a halt to the expansion of China in the South China sea.

This kind of posturing will only hurt China's image on the global stage. Not that they care anymore about all of that. I think its very dangerous to think that the Asia-Pacific region is going through a phase where everyday some country is locking heads with the Chinese. There is a lot of pressure on Australia to do something about the artificial islands, but I think it will only escalate tensions and not achieve its purpose.
