The delegation from the Astrakhan region, headed by the acting governor, Sergei Morozov, arrived in Kazan with a working visit on November 29.

The Astrakhan region of Russia, where the Iranian trading house and Azerbaijani business center are already actively working, is ready to help promote products from Tatarstan to the markets of the Caspian states, reports TASS with reference to Sergei Morozov.

"We offer Tatarstan access to foreign markets through the Astrakhan region. Iran’s trading house and the Azerbaijan business center are working in Astrakhan, and the Astrakhan business center is being built in Baku. Together with our Azerbaijani colleagues, we are planning to create a freight railway hub," Morozov said after signing an agreement on cooperation between the Astrakhan region and Tatarstan.

The acting governor drew attention to the fact that fabric, glass, automotive equipment, food come from the republic to the Astrakhan region. Turkey and Azerbaijan, both effectively use their economic and energy capabilities, as well as the geopolitical position to expand bilateral and regional cooperation.

The Azerbaijani-Turkish joint commission on international road transport held its meeting in Izmir, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan.

The meeting was chaired by head of the State Road Transport Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Habib Hasanov from the Azerbaijani side and head of the General Directorate of Road Transport Regulation of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Mahmut Gurses from the Turkish side.

The purpose of the meeting was to further develop cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the field of international road transport, as well as the implementation of the requirements of bilateral agreements concluded between the two countries.

The meeting discussed the current situation in the field of international road transport between the two countries, the exchange of static data on trade relations and authorization forms used by road carriers of both countries, problems faced by road carriers in the implementation of freight and passenger transport, and ways to address them.

At the same time, the parties exchanged views on maintenance parity regarding the number of buses involved in passenger transportation on the Baku-Istanbul-Baku route, upcoming issues in connection with the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the discrepancy between the allowed weight of large-sized and heavy foreign vehicles traveling on public roads of Azerbaijan, and Article 211.2 of the Tax Code, simplifying procedures for obtaining visas by road carriers of both countries.

The subject of discussions, in particular, were the problems of the carriers of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic existing at the border checkpoint “Sederek-Diluju” while traveling to Georgia and other countries through Turkey, the number of quotas for authorization forms used for transportation in 2019, prospects for the development of transport and other topical issues.

Hasanov spoke about the large-scale reforms implemented in Azerbaijan in recent years in the field of transport, innovations in the road transport structure and major regional projects.

Following the discussions of aforementioned issues, as well as other topical issues on the agenda, a relevant protocol was signed between the delegations at the next meeting of the joint commission.

By 2017, 144.8 million tons of cargo and 1.7 billion passengers were transported by road. In 2017, revenues from road transportation totaled about 1.2 billion manat ($710,000 million).

Turkey is a partner in many strategic projects of Azerbaijan. Turkey was the first state to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and has been a staunch supporter of Azerbaijan in its efforts to consolidate its independence, preserve its territorial integrity and realize its economic potential arising from the rich natural resources of the Caspian Sea.

Two countries have gained good experience in the implementation of large-scale projects of international importance, which are well known in the region and the world. These are Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, TANAP, the Southern Gas Corridor and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

All projects initiated by Azerbaijan and Turkey are implemented successfully and serve further development and well-being of two nations. The created infrastructure opens up opportunities for further increased freight traffic.

Georgia imported more than 1.28 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-November 2018, the report of the Georgian Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO) said.

More than 1 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity imported by Georgia over this period accounted for Azerbaijan.

The volume of electricity imported by Georgia in November amounted to 219 million kWhr, 215.5 million kWh or 98 percent of which was supplied by Azerbaijan.

During the first eleven months of 2018, Georgia's electricity exports amounted to 588.6 million kWh, 23.1 million kWh of which were sent to Azerbaijan.

Recently, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed a memorandum on the prospects of Azerbaijani-Georgian power systems after discussion of the state of the power systems of Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as the construction of a 330 kW two-way (duplex) transmission line.

Azerenergy JSC is the main exporter of electric energy in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan exported 1.380 billion kWh of electricity worth $64.9 million, that is 444.7 million kWh of 47.55 percent more than in the previous year, according to the State Customs Committee (SCC). The electricity was sold at $0.047 or 0.0799 manats a kWh. Electricity export made up 0.42 percent of Azerbaijan’s total export.

Georgia is expected to double electricity imports per year. According to the forecast of Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Georgia will import more than 2.8 million kWh of electricity in 2019. The current import was 1.4 million kilowatt / hour. The maximum limit for imports in the next year is predicted to be 407.9 million kWh in March.

The creation of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge will enable to integrate into the European electricity market in the future.

Georgia can join the European energy system through the submarine power line in the Black Sea. It is expected to implement line linking of Georgia with Bulgaria and Romania. More than $ 3 billion will be spent on construction. In this case, Georgia will be connected to the European energy grid, that means Azerbaijan will also be able to supply electricity to Europe.

The two countries broadly cooperate in regional energy development, transportation and economic partnership projects such as Southern Gas Corridor, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline (BTC), Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway (BTK), the TRACECA, and the BSEC.

SOCAR also is deeply involved in the energy market in Georgia which was established in 2006. As noted, one prospecting and four production wells with an average depth of 6,300 meters will be drilled from the platform. A new offshore platform No. 12 was commissioned at the Bulla-Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea on December 24, Azerbaijani state-owned company SOCAR reported.
