he German Federal Government welcomes the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, envisaging Azerbaijani gas supply to Europe, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy told Trend.

"Azerbaijan has opened the Southern Gas Corridor for EU Member States with its natural gas supply contract via the TAP gas pipeline. But the purchase of gas lies entirely in the hands of the companies," said the ministry.

Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy also talked about the prospects for German companies’ more active involvement in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas sphere.

"We know that SOCAR is the main player in the Azerbaijani oil and gas sector and that Azerbaijan is pursuing an ambitious investment program in the Azerbaijani oil and gas sector over the next few years. Whether German companies will cooperate and invest in the Azerbaijani oil and gas sector is, however, entirely up to their decision. The German Federal Government has no influence on the investment decisions of German companies," said the ministry.

The Federal Ministry said that for Germany in 2018 (including November), Azerbaijan was the ninth-largest supplier of crude oil.

Oil imports from Azerbaijan increased compared to 2017 and amounted to 2.7 million tons (2017: 2.45 million tons), according to the ministry.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and envisages the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

The launching ceremony of the first stage of the Southern Gas Corridor was held in Baku on May 29, 2018, while opening ceremony of TANAP was held on June 12, 2018 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir.

The gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - from the Sangachal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline.

Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) have been recently connected on the Turkish-Greek border.

Serbia sees Azerbaijan as a potential cost-effective source of gas imports, Trend reports referring to a document from Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia.

The document argues that apart from Russian gas imported by Gazprom as the dominant supplier of natural gas to the countries of South East Europe, a "potentially cost-effective source of natural gas in the Republic of Serbia, as well as in the region of South-East Europe, is natural gas from Romania", as well as from Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, LNG from Greece and Turkey are listed as potential sources, and gas from Iraq, Iran and the Mediterranean Sea are identified as hypothetical alternative sources.

Moreover, AERS maintains that the construction of an entry point into the Hungarian transmission system from Serbia will enable importing of natural gas from various sources which would have a positive effect on competition on the Hungarian natural gas market.

Azerbaijan is currently implementing the Southern Gas Corridor project, which will be able to transport gas to South-East Europe and Balkan region via interconnectors.

The Southern Gas Corridor, which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, can also transport gas from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, Elshad Nasirov, vice president for marketing and investment at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, told Italian journalists, Trend reports citing aboutenergy.com.

“If the countries of the European Union need more, we can also transport gas from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan,” he said.

Nasirov noted that gas supplies from the Azerbaijan Shah Deniz 2 field will be roughly distributed as follows: 6 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey; half a billion to Albania (or more depending on requirements); one billion to Greece; another to Bulgaria via the IGB interconnector; up to 18 billion cubic meters for Italy “if needed”.

In light of the supply obligations, as noted by Nasirov, there are no alternatives: “Everything has to start by the last quarter of 2020”.

Although at present, oil and gas account for the main share in exports, Azerbaijan is eager to expand its list with non-oil sector's products. An upward trend is already showing itself in the non-oil exports.

Azerbaijan will launch supplies of medicinal tea to Germany.

Discussions were held on the export of Azerbaijani products within the framework of Berlin International Green Week on January 18-27, and preliminary agreements have been reached, the Economy Ministry told AZERTAC.

Thus, the Herba Flora of Azerbaijan has reached the agreement on the export of medicinal herbal tea with Germany's Herbacon GmbH and Tramontabio.

At the same time, Babek Sirab and Qatar's Dandy Company Ltd have agreed to export mineral waters.

Recently, the products of 14 Azerbaijani companies operating in wine and other alcoholic drinks, medicinal herbal teas, confectionary products, dried fruits and other products were presented at the "Made in Azerbaijan" stand at the exhibition International Green Week 2019 held in Berlin on January 18-27, 2019.

Established in 1926 the International Green Week is a one-of-a-kind international exhibition for the food, agricultural and horticultural industries.

Herba Flora started operating on May 25, 1998. Initially, the company started to produce medicinal plants and gradually expanded its scope to switch to the production of various herbs and herbal teas. The company also produces syrups on the basis of plant concentrates that can be used in the prevention and treatment of various diseases.

So far, the company has produced over 200 products.

The company HERBA FLORA operates in accordance with the international standard ISO 9001: 2008 quality management system.

HERBA FLORA took part many times in Azerbaijan International Health Care, in 2013 in “Beauty and Aesthetic Medicine” Exhibition. It had been awarded the certificates at “The Demonstration of the Best Product” and “The Best Corporative Style” and “The long term participation” nominations.

Launched in 2016, the Made in Azerbaijan brand envisages a large-scale promotion of local non-oil products in foreign markets.

Azerbaijan is organizing a number of export missions to promote national products under the Made in Azerbaijan brand. Export missions are a supporting measure to identify opportunities for accessing new markets, strengthen local product positions in existing markets and provide these markets with new products.

Promotion of export-oriented local products under the Made in Azerbaijan brand in a wider geographic area also helps to attract foreign investment. The export of non-oil products will stimulate the expansion of the production of these products and will further strengthen the non-oil sector's share in the structure of the GDP.
