The pollution of sea water and the deterioration of ecological condition is one of the most important issues of the recent period among the Caspian Sea problems.
The wastewater, mostly formed in rural and urban settlements without sewerage, is often discharged into the sea through lakes and ponds.
The construction of a drain line to the sea, as provided for by the “Project for the construction of a sewage treatment plant in Pirshagi,” has been completed.
The drain line is one of the most important parts of the Pirshagi wastewater treatment plant construction project, which is ongoing near the settlement of Pirshagi. The cleaning capacity of the plant is 40,000 cubic meters per day.
A line of steel pipes with a diameter of 1,600 millimeters and a length of 1,700 meters has been built to drain purified water into the deeper waters of the sea in order to maintain the environmental stability of the Caspian Sea.
The line was installed at the construction site of Neftgaztikinti trust of State Oil Company SOCAR, which specializes in laying submarine pipes and protecting metal structures from corrosion.
About 90 percent of the work at the Pirshagi wastewater treatment plant has already been completed.
The Government of Azerbaijan funds the project together with the Export-Import Bank of South Korea.
South Korean Export-Import Bank allocates $43.5 million to finance the Pirshagi wastewater treatment project. The rest of the project totaling $64.2 million is funded by the Azerbaijani government.
Wastewater will be treated in three stages. The complex will prevent the discharge into the Caspian Sea of wastewater generated in the vast territory in the northeast of the Absheron Peninsula. Wastewater from the settlements of Kurdakhani, Pirshagi, Mashtagha, Bilgah, Nardaran, Mahammadi, Digah, Mehtiabad, Goradil, Fatmai and Novkhani will be treated here.
In 2016, Azersu OJSC, a company that provides potable water supply and sanitation services across Azerbaijan, signed a contracting agreement with South Korean company Hansol EME Co LTD on installation of the waste-water treatment equipment in Pirshagi settlement.
Azerbaijan is cooperating closely with foreign companies and international organizations, including SUEZ Group, IsDB (Islamic Development Bank) etc., to reconstruct the water supply and sewage systems.
The projects are of particular importance in terms of ensuring the environmental safety of the Caspian Sea.
Azerbaijan’s major industrial potential is concentrated in the Absheron Peninsula, which includes more than 200 lakes with an overall area of 3,325 hectares.
The large-scale measures taken in wastewater management in Azerbaijan contribute to the environmental protection and improve the quality of life in the country.

Foreign companies are interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the implementation of renewable energy projects that serve to ensure energy security in the country.
According to the Spain’s Export and Investment Committee under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, the Spanish company EQO-NIXUS builds the first floating solar power plant in Azerbaijan with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
“Azerbaijan continues taking steps in the field of production of alternative energy to diversify its economy,” the message reads.
In this regard, one of the latest achievements was the agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Asian Development Bank on the construction of a pilot plant for the production of photovoltaic energy on Lake Boyukshor.
The project for the development of a floating solar power plant was announced in July 2018.
The Spanish company EQO-NIXUS, a global consulting company specializing in the interdisciplinary consulting and management services, is responsible for the implementation of the project after signing a contract worth 2.6 million euros in September 2018.
According to the statement of the ADB, this sum will be divided between Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan, where solar power plants will also be built. In each country, the project should be completed by 2021, with the generation capacity reaching 100 kW.
This power plant is a powerful boost for the development of "clean energy" in Azerbaijan, a country of great interest to the ADB, which aims to diversify the energy balance and improve energy security.
Earlier, ADB selected three consulting companies - EQO-NIXUS and S.L.U. as international consulting companies and Azerbaijan Energy Engineering and Consulting as a local consulting company - for a pilot project on floating solar panels in Azerbaijan.
ADB approved the Floating Solar Energy Development project on August 17, 2018. It involves technical assistance for the creation of floating solar power plants in the three countries. ADB experts are sure that this will contribute to the diversification of energy sources, increase energy security and reduce harmful emissions.
It is noteworthy that in accordance with the three-year business plan, ADB will allocate $335 million for the modernization of Azerbaijan’s energy system in 2019-2021.
Solar energy is one of the most common types of alternative energy sources in modern times. The amount of sunlight falling on the surface of the Earth is greater than all oil, gas, coal and other fuels.
The advantage of solar energy is that sun exposure does not generate a glaze effect, no air pollution occurs, and heat does not spread to atmospheric layers. The only cons of solar energy is that it is dependent on the state of the atmosphere, day and year.
Azerbaijan's natural climatic conditions open up opportunities for energy production by using solar energy sources. The amount of sunny hours in Azerbaijan is 2,400-3,200 hours a year. Taking into account that there are 300 sunny days in Azerbaijan, it is one of the most promising areas.
Presently, solar power plants in Azerbaijan operate in the cities of Gobustan and Samukh, the Baku settlements of Pirallahi and Surakhani. The power plant in Baku’s Sahil settlement is fully ready for operation. After the start of its operation, it is also planned to commission a similar solar power plant in Sumgayit city, where the work has almost been completed.
According to the report Market Analysis Azerbaijan 2019, solar power maintains 31.6 percent (8,000 MW) share in total potential for renewable energy in the country.

Azerbaijan and Central Asian country Turkmenistan have signed around 20 agreements, including a Joint Declaration that are aimed at developing cooperation between the two countries, during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to the country on March 11..

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the Joint Declaration inked with Turkmenistan during a press conference following the signing of the documents.

“Among the signed documents, I would like to highlight the Joint Declaration of the heads of state, which reflects our intentions, our assessment of the situation in the world and in the region, and our aspirations for the future. I also believe that one of the important points of the Joint Declaration is the renewed support for the territorial integrity, inviolability of borders and each other's sovereignty, as well as conflict resolution based on the principles of international law and the principles of territorial integrity, inviolability of borders and sovereignty,” Aliyev said.

“As for our bilateral relations, we have once again reviewed the broad agenda of our interaction, reaffirmed our commitment to the strategic development of our cooperation, and the documents that have been signed today supplement the already very broad legal base. During my official visit to Turkmenistan, more than 20 documents were signed, and today there are about 20 more. This is almost half of all documents between our countries. This suggests that in a year and a half we have come a long way in terms of strengthening the legal framework,” the president went on saying.

Touching upon areas, which agreements were signed, Aliyev emphasized the progress in mutual economic relations: “I am glad that a good process is underway in the trade and economic sphere and there is good momentum in commodity turnover. Today we spoke in detail about the transport and logistical sector, gave certain instructions to relevant state bodies to intensify work in this direction, to strengthen coordination of efforts to enhance the transit and transport potential of our countries.”

“Both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have been attaching special importance to transport infrastructure and we practically went along a parallel course by modernizing this infrastructure. Today, our main ports operate in a coordinated and well-concerted way, enabling the passage of growing cargo through our territories. We also provide our transit potential to other countries. Today, I believe, we have made an important decision to strengthen this potential. Additional measures will be taken to create infrastructure opportunities and conditions for increasing freight traffic. Due to close cooperation and good relations with our neighbors, we will naturally attract more shippers from neighboring states and, in essence, create a new transport corridor that extends thousands of kilometers. Thus, we will create favorable conditions for the further development of our countries and strengthen regional cooperation,” Aliyev said.

The president also discussed energy cooperation with his Turkmen counterpart as well as humanitarian cooperation between the two countries taking into account the ethnic closeness of the two nations.

“In other words, today's agenda has been quite extensive. In general, we have a very active dialogue. Last year, the presidents met both in Baku and in Ashgabat. The year before last, as I noted, my official visit was very successful.”

Aliyev concluded his speech expressing his confidence that visit of Turkmenistan’s President will be another important step towards strengthening ties between countries.

Seventeen contracts were signed between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in different spheres including aviation, culture, migration, education, communication, environmental protection, agriculture, real estate, science, literature, trade, economy.

Azerbaijan’s Azermash OJSC will start exporting cars abroad this year, Emin Akhundov, Chairman of the OJSC, told Trend.

"From October 2018 through February 2020, Azermash produced 4,000 cars. In April 2020, it is planned to begin the first export to Ukraine," Akhundov stressed.

"The next stage will be export to Uzbekistan in 2020. But it's too early to talk about the timing," the chairman added.

Talking about electric cars, he said the demand for these vehicles is low in the Azerbaijani market.

Akhundov said that electric cars are not profitable in for Azerbaijan, as there is no corresponding infrastructure for them.

"The price of the new electric car exceeds $20,000. These cars cannot work adequately in the winter so far. But Azerbaijan is able to create the necessary infrastructure so that these vehicles comprise 50 percent of all cars in the near future," he added.
"The production of electric cars requires much less money than of cars with a gasoline engine. The transition to electric cars will be more profitable for car manufacturers, not only because they are environment-friendly, but also from an economic point of view," said Akhundov.

Touching upon the issue of expansion of production, the chairman emphasized that the construction of a plant for the production of small trucks and vans in the Hajigabul industrial quarter of Azerbaijan is ongoing, and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2020.

"According to our estimates, the construction of this facility will be completed by June 2020. The share of Azermash in the construction of a plant for the production of small-tonnage trucks will be 100 percent," the chairman said.

Azerbaijan's EVRASCON (Euro-Asian Construction Corporation) company has won the construction tender in Kiev’s road transportation sector, local media reported on April 27, citing the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine.

As a result of the tender, EVRASCON will oversee the construction of traffic interchanges on the M-05 Kiev-Odessa and M-06 Kiev-Chop roads.

According to the Ukrainian state agency's information, the interchanges will be built on three sites.

The construction of interchanges will ensure the unloading of traffic on these international highways, as well as improving traffic safety in places of transport concentration in Kiev.

Note that Euro-Asian Construction Corporation EVRASCON (formerly “Azerkorpu”) was established in 1968 under the Ministry of Transport Construction of the USSR and began its activity as “Mostootryad-100”.

As a result of privatization in 2001, the company received the status of a joint stock company. In 2013, a rebranding was carried out at Azerkorpu OJSC, which the company changed its name to the Euro-Asian Construction Corporation EVRASCON.

EVRASCON also built traffic interchanges near the Koroglu metro station in Baku in 2007.

Turkish companies involved in restoring Azerbaijan’s liberated territories [PHOTO] (azernews.az)

Turkish companies are actively involved in reconstructing Azerbaijan’s recently-liberated lands, and were first to secure contracts with the government, Communications and High Technologies Minister Rashad Nabiyev has said.

Nabiyev made the remarks during the visit to liberated Fuzuli and Khojavand regions with Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoglu on May 31.

Nabiyev said that Turkish companies are implementing important infrastructure projects in the liberated territories and expressed gratitude for Turkey’s political support during the 44-day second Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh war.

Nabiyev emphasized that the restoration of liberated territories is beneficial not only for Azerbaijan but for the entire region as a whole.

"We are confident that the process of creating favorable infrastructure for the sustainable settlement of our liberated territories, as well as ensuring people's comfort and access to modern services will be successfully implemented at all stages," the minister added.

The ministers familiarized themselves with the Horadiz-Agband railroad project, the Ahmadbayli-Horadiz-Minjivan-AgbAnd and Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway projects, as well as ongoing and planned works on the Fuzuli international airport project.

In turn, Karaismailoglu stressed that Turkey is focusing on completing the construction of the Victory Road in mid-August.

He noted that the opening corridor between Nakhchivan and the main part of Azerbaijan will further strengthen the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

“The work is underway to complete the projects in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from the Armenian occupation as soon as possible,” the minister said.

==============================================
currently, Turkey has helped build the new Fuzuli-Shusha highway and Fuzuli airport project, however Turkey expanded on opening a bank branch in Shusha, and investing in tech parks as well as smart cities too

Azerbaijan has invited quite a few different countries to get involved in restoring the Nagorno-Karabakh region, so far they have invited Germany, France, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and a couple others, however a majority of these are undecided still

Turkey has mostly been involved with the Azeris for defence cooperation, the Azeris were willing to spend billions on Turkish defence gear if it met protecting their territory (Russia for a long while had strict weapon restrictions on Azerbaijan). Azerbaijan in fact has interest in procuring the TF-X and possibly the T-129 in the upcoming future, possibly the Akinici UAV and Hurjet that is currently under development, which itself will have a variant based for a light fighter replacing the F-16s...

anyways, Turkey is putting a lot of investment towards Karabakh to show their "brotherly connections". from what I read Turkey so far has inked building a major highway connecting Fuzuli to Baku, a new regional airport, industrial parks, tech parks, smart cities and a new major transit line connecting Fuzuli by rail to trade with Turkey and Azerbaijan.

again, a lot of the Turkish involvement in itself is just a political move, sure we can applaud Turkey's efforts in rebuilding (a positive) but let's not forget that Turkey is also countering Russian influence in their neighborhood as well.

Russian harvesters to be assembled in Azerbaijan (trend.az)

Russian Rostselmash company plans to launch the assembly of grain harvesters (combines) in Azerbaijan, Trend reports citing the Russian media.

The machines will be assembled at the site of the AzerMash plant.

Rostselmash products were presented in the Caspian Agro 2021 international agricultural exhibition in Baku.

The Rostselmash exposition has traditionally aroused great interest among the exhibition visitors. The distinguished guests - Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Inam Karimov and Ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov - got acquainted with the machinery of the company.

“In 2021, our company presented several types of products. In particular, the modern classic of the company is a combine of ‘NOVA 340’ brand. This machine is very popular among the farmers of the country and has repeatedly proved its reliability and high productivity. The demand for this combine harvester in Azerbaijan is growing,” said Andrei Kolesnikov, Director of the Sales Department to Asia at Rostselmash.

'NOVA 340' is an ideal solution for farmers and small farms. The machine can be easily converted from harvesting grain to harvesting industrial and oil crops, including corn, which is actively grown in Azerbaijan.
