I am hoping that this incident is just a skirmish and will not continue into a full blown war. I can still vividly remember the daily news reports via the BBC of last war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave. Many people had died or were displaced. I surely wouldn't want to see or hear of a similar occurrence.

Conclusions to be drawn from the four-day fight in Nagorno-Karabakh for the peace process

upload_2016-4-9_14-10-2.png

On April 1, clashes broke out across the line of contact between the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces, thus marking some of the heaviest fighting to have occurred over the occupied Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh since a ceasefire was agreed upon by the two parties in 1994. The latest clashes ended with a mutually agreed ceasefire on April 5. According to official sources, Azerbaijan lost 31 soldiers in the operations, and though the final number of Armenia’s losses is not yet clear, according to the latest information, over the course of the operations as many as 44 Armenian servicemen were killed, 121 were wounded, and 25 have been confirmed as missing so far. A noteworthy amount of heavy military equipment and weaponry was also lost in the course of the clashes. Unconfirmed claims by both sides put the number of human and material losses well above the official numbers.

The most important question remaining after the four-day fight is: what conclusions can be drawn from the resurgence of violence in terms of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process? Primarily, the recent escalation of hostilities once again highlighted the apparent need for the international community to increase its efforts to find a lasting resolution to the conflict. For a long time, inaction has characterized the international community’s approach to the issue. Azerbaijan has long criticized the OSCE Minsk Group, which is tasked with finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, for its failure to deliver a long-awaited peace in the region. Apart from the organization of sporadic meetings between the conflicting parties and the issuance of vague statements, there has been little real effort made toward resolving the conflict. In particular, no pressure has been applied on Armenia to conform to the provisions of international law and therewith to adhere to the United Nations’ four Security Council resolutions (822, 853, 874, 884) which demand the unconditional and immediate withdrawal of troops from Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied regions of Azerbaijan. In such an environment of impunity coupled with the inefficacy of international efforts , Armenia refuses to compromise for the sake of peace and repeatedly sabotages the negotiation process, rendering a resolution to the conflict virtually impossible.

Furthermore, future international efforts should not be narrowly directed at preventing the escalation of hostilities and maintaining the status-quo on the line of contact, as has been the case for a long time; on the contrary, their goal should be to eliminate the root cause of hostilities – they should aim to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. So far, international efforts have mainly been directed at freezing the conflict, rather than solving it. The Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group seem to be working within the bounds of “conflict management” – as they try to reduce the tensions between the parties via occasional visits to the region – rather than actually working to establish a conflict resolution mechanism”. The latest clashes once again showed that the current status quo is unsustainable. The two armies, facing each other on the line of contact and sometimes separated by just 200 meters of “no man’s land”, have invested massive amounts of resources in their rearmament over the last 20 years. At any moment a single provocation could occur that can flare tensions and result in severe consequences. Even without such provocations, unintended escalations are quite possible. The conflict can resurge at any time and such unintended escalations may lead to all-out war and destabilize the entire region, creating serious security implications globally. The small, unarmed OSCE monitoring mission that is on the line of contact can in no way guarantee the ceasefire. In fact, aside from the current escalation that caught the eye of the entire world, ceasefire violations have always been quite commonplace along the line of contact. The current escalation caused about 75 confirmed military deaths, but approximately same number of people die every year as a result of ceasefire violations. For example, 73 soldiers (31 Azerbaijani and 42 Armenian) and dozens of civilians on both sides died in skirmishes just in 2015.

Finally, the eruption of heavy fighting along the line of contact in and around the occupied territory of Nagorno-Karabakh should stand as a wakeup call for Armenia and the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. By having escaped significant damage as a result of the absence of peace, Armenia has demonstrated a rigid position, which has been aimed at prolonging the conflict resolution process in hopes of gradually achieving international recognition of the self-proclaimed “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”. However, both Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh separatist regime should understand that continuation of the status quo is no longer achievable and that there is a price to pay for protraction of the conflict, the sum of which will no doubt culminate in heavy costs. Armenia must change its uncompromising position and engage in genuine peace talks to achieve sustainable peace based on mutual compromise.

The recent escalation of hostilities to near all-out war levels proves that the international community should change its negligent attitude towards the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. These events, occurring over the course of few days only, blatantly demonstrated that this is not a frozen conflict that can be further neglected, but a dangerous “no war nor peace” situation. Just as Armenia should change its attitude towards the resolution process, the OSCE Minsk Group should cease its inaction and try its best to mobilize international efforts to bring about a long overdue resolution to the conflict. A sustainable solution can only be found within the framework of comprehensive autonomy for Armenian and Azerbaijani communities living together in Nagorno-Karabakh within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Can Azerbaijan annex Armenia successfully?
That does not seem likely.

Turkey and Azerbaijan together can not annex Armenia successfully so long as Armenia retains its traditional religious (Orthodox) ties with Russia.

Fortunately or unfortunately, no single Muslim majority country on planet Earth is a potential superpower.

None of them have the raw talent, the size of population, land area, natural resources, historical continuity and resourcefulness to ascend to this position and change the military balance around its region. None.

That is why in the post-2001 era, every airy-fairy country and political entity has taken potshots at, invaded, killed, maimed, tortured, and did loads of other horrible crimes against Muslims and got away with it.

If Muslims were intelligent on the whole, then they would have made it a criminal offence for any individual, collection of individuals, parties, newspapers, think tanks, institutes or countries to oppose the establishment of the Islamic Khilafah. Only by merging into a single political unit or a single country can the Muslims of the world regain their place in the world.

Otherwise, no name countries like Armenia Burma Lanka Singapore Israel India Angola and every other two bit country will toy around with you.

To start the Muslim revival, the core area of the Muslim world or the Middle east, that needs to see its revival. The Middle East needs an overwhelmingly dominant indigenous Islamic superpower that can crush the United States in a blink of an eye so to speak by introducing radically new weapons, much in the same way that the atomic bombings of Japan at the fag end of WWII, sent a crushing message not only to Japan but to all adversaries and allies alike of the United State's ascendancy, the Muslims need to make the same qualitative move by sending a crushing message to all allies and enemies alike by testing some novel, unthought of and unheard of new generation weapons.

As of now, not a single Muslim majority country has an economy that is say larger than Russia, Brazil or even Mexico, not to speak of the larger world powers. No Muslim majority country is a scientific powerhouse, and the most prolific publisher in this regard is Iran which is considered a Shiite heretic outcast by a large swath of the Arab world. No Muslim majority country is a powerhouse of high technology products and services and no Muslim majority country or population group gave birth to a dominant or leading brand in high technology anywhere in the world, in the modern era spanning the last 30 or 40 years.

Although various theories are advanced by interested parties, the most robust, scientifically and logically sound explanation for this continued failure of the world's Muslims can be attributed to the collective mean IQs.

All of the other oft-repeated excuses are just excuses, and all the Western wolves-in-sheep's clothing that promote secularism and other ills in the Muslim world are driven by their agenda.

Evidence shows that secular countries like Benin, Burkina Faso, Indonesia and Bangladesh COMBINED produce less scientific articles than a single Shiite majority "Islamic Republic of Iran", or a single Sunni majority Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After Iran, the largest producer of these papers is Turkiye, under the leadership of the AKP.

Essentially, while the world is indeed changing, the United States will probably remain the leading world power for the next decade or two largely thanks to lack of effective opposition or a challenger.

Had China been led by any semicompetent party or leadership, it would have already sailed past the United States in every significant index of national power given the resources at CPC's disposal, but then the CPC is the epitome of incompetence and buffoonery, perhaps, more so than even the DPRK's dictatorial Kim dynasty in the Confucian world. We have to expect CPC to continue to bungle up and let the US be in the lead for at least two more decades despite the much greater resources windfall the CPC enjoys.

So long as the United States leads the world's politics, forget about any Muslim resurgence.

Muslims all around the world should even drop any aspirations altogether about any Muslim resurgence without crushing the United States altogether.

The USA is a proven enemy of the Muslims and yet, except for Iran, not a single Muslim majority country dares to prepare for war and act against the United States. Even Iran itself aligned with the USA when it invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

Why are Muslims so primitive compared to the world's major powers but more advanced than, let's say, some sub-saharan African non-Muslim countries, Hindu countries like Nepal or Fiji maybe, some countries like Haiti or Papua New Guinea?

All the evidence so far points to the distribution of high IQ individuals affecting a nation's or a political block's long term potential.

Even the most powerful or advanced Muslim majority countries are, at best, middle-IQ countries.

That is why, when the United States disfavoured a military move into Syria by the Turkish-Saudi led alliance, the so called Muslims backed down. If this so called Muslim alliance had enough talented scientists to design and mass manufacture weapons superior to ICBMs in range, speed, evasiveness and destructive potential, and more compact, more destructive and easier handled than usual thermonuclear devices, the Muslims could have easily ended the Syrian crises, and forced the United States, Russia and Israel to pack their bags from the Middle East, for a start.

You're better than that, that's not a good idea at all. And I'm gonna repeat this again, look at quality of Muslims rather than blindly supporting any Muslims. Government in Azerbaijan is your typical corrupt, dictatorial government like we see a lot around the Muslim world. There is no gain in supporting such an administration, especially when we no longer value their actions. In Islam, God judges by your intentions and you have to prove your worth through your actions. The actions by these governments, suggest they are not doing anything for God's sake.

I only bring up religion because I assume you're supporting them just for them being Muslims, I could be wrong however. In the end, Azerbaijan has good ties with the West, and they would use it as a front against Russia in last case scenario if they seriously wanted war with Russia. Other than that, we should not expect anything.

Informative and in-depth post, you seem to be advocating a Union style approach for the Muslim world, which won't work. Muslim world deals US currency, they don't have their own currency like the Euro, they are divided politically along ethnic lines. All of them value ethnic interests before collective Muslim interest. An Islamic Caliphate is not a Union, so don't confuse it for that. It won't work in the way you suggest. You need radical change in power structure, there should be no governments at all, but rather put people in charge of provinces like in the past. The world doesn't work that way anymore. So you need modified Islamic Caliphate model or work towards Union.

Most importantly, to advocate Islamic Caliphate, you need a spiritual resurgence first, keep in mind nobody is that religious anymore, most people are now secular in the Muslim world. If they are religious, it's to use it as tool to advance ethnic interests, like Iran uses Shia Islam to maintain ancient Persian influence. And how Saudi Arabia uses Sunni Islam to maintain it's influence on Arab or Sunni concentrated areas and allies in the ME. There are a few people far and in between that are genuinely and sincerely religious, and these are in impoverished war zones. You can't convince the people of the region of an Islamic resurgence, because they have no spiritual will for it. People are anti-religion nowadays, even if they themselves believe otherwise.

And yes, people are not educated or logical, you need to wait for the new generation which is logical. Nowadays, people are content with what they have, they advocate bad solutions for the region which only benefit their personal ethnic background, and people use religion to keep people stupid, by using Islam as means to accept their government. And using Islam, to marry new girls, and make money, and advance government interest. So there is complete moral and spiritual decay that is not going to change for hundreds of years.

People will go full blown secular and Islam will die. Of course they will still preach the pro-government, pro-materialism, pro-promiscuity type of Islam which is totally fake and corrupted.

Thanks.

I did not necessarily advocate an Islamic Khilafah. I believe it is a requirement upon all Muslims? Such a Khilafah will probably not materialize due to the lower collective IQs of the populations in the next centuries.

Unions like the European Union, African Union, ASEAN and such are all proven failures, for a good reason. They don't and never did work in non Muslim countries, they would not be allowed to work in mostly primitive Muslim societies by intellectually superior non-Muslim forces. There should be no 'get out clause' in a Khilafah. Once you are in, you can not get out at will. There will be no option for a 'Brexit' in the Khilafaf, only then can it work.

Ideally, a government would be ruled by popular consent, and in smaller population centres, you can also use direct democracy as used in Switzerland where the citizens vote for or against any legislation, not like other countries, where the politicians on both sides are the same, and the peasant class count for nothing.

What you have said may apply to a number of Arabs in the rich parts, but what of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt? Did not it win the popular elections? Why is it that it could never hold on to power?

I say, it is because they were poor politicians, specifically, poor chess players. They had very poor understanding and grasp of international geopolitics and military affairs.

The rule of the jungle applies. The strong animal eats up the weak animal. Why do you think after the USA declared Iran, Iraq and North Korea the axis of evil they only managed to attack Iraq (the weakest of these 3 countries), but shied away from attacking the other two? But the USA still threatened and violated Pakistan, Yemen, Libya and other weak states.

As you say, most Arabs and middle Easterners do not have the drive, motivation and simply the intelligence or IQ, it is not a wonder that they are a subservient population. I laugh heartily whenever I hear or read Middle Eastern American puppets from Saudi Arabia, Turkey to Egypt and Jordan call the North Koreans brainwashed.

Even as the world's most isolated country, a desolate and a dictatorial country, what North Korea with its meagre resources has managed to achieve the whole of the Middle Eastern puppet regimes of America can only dream of achieving in the next 2 centuries, like you have said.

Do you notice that North Koreans just like South Koreans score high in International Olympiads of Mathematics? Or in IQ tests? Or if we use as proxies, then South Koreans and other Orientals always score much higher than Westerners in intellectual and academic tests of unbiased nature?

But Africans, Hindus, Latinos, Arabs and Middle Easterners score lower than Westerners and Orientals, almost always.

Is that a surprise? I know Western test takers or examiners are biased and have their agendas but how do you explain North Korea testing their Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles, IRBMs or ICBMS like Taepodong-2 or Taepodong-3 with 6,000 km range, at least. Except Iran, no member of the OIC (Sunni or Shia or secular or atheist or whatever) sent a single payload to space, yet! And North Korea the impoverished, isolated, dictatorial, control-freak country have done that numerous times.

These same folks call North Koreans brainwashed, do you see the irony?

I show you another case.
https://world-defense.com/threads/saudi-turkish-war-against-terrorism-in-syria.3572/

Looking at the mood from the spate of commentaries and opinions above, the bluster from the Saudi-Turkish puppetry alliance would have you believe that 3 months later today, in early May, 2016, Syria would already have been liberated.

In reality, their American masters yanked the chains and they shut up.

Brainwashed are often those folks who do not even entertain the idea that they may be wrong and that what they have learned to be correct all their life may be wrong.

Brainwashed folks often fail to do logical tasks requiring intense cognitive capabilities.

North Koreans, by all means, are less brainwashed than most Middle Easterners whose IQs are invariably less than 92, compared to a Western European or British mean of 100.

What you meant by keeping Middle Eastern people stupid is that their dumb dictatorial rulers use their media and government apparatus to suppress dissenting voices and brainwash their masses.

The dictators do not keep the masses stupid. The masses are born/naturally stupid. The dictators just use this fact to their advantage. Those who are observant and get some chance, maybe once in five years or 10 years to think for a while and have an IQ over 130, they can easily figure out the crock their governments and politicans feed them.

I like your analytical and thinking skills despite the plight your country is going through and the fact that the whole world basically looks at it nonchalantly. You are a rarity in the Middle East.

If you're Iranian, you're welcome to post here, we really would like input from other backgrounds and update us on Iranian affairs. I don't see a point in the rest of your trolling though, do you really enjoy it? Just behave normally, dude.
