The Belarusian Emergencies Ministry will this year begin operating a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called the Burevestnik with an operational range of up to 290 km, according to Yuri Yatsyna, head of the research and development (R&D) centre for UAV technologies at the Physics Technology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Speaking on 10 February, Yatsyna made the announcement while attending a press conference in Minsk focused on new technologies for unmanned aircraft systems.
The Burevestnik has been designed to operate across extended areas of terrain, tracking moving objects and transmitting information in real time. Operations include reconnaissance and surveillance missions, monitoring of emergency missions, the inspection of laid oil and gas pipelines, and radiation monitoring at nuclear facilities.
