China is overly imposing its superpower capability with its waging territorial dispute. If it were really a fair player, then it'd rather bring everything to international attention and international arbitration and laws, and not just on make everything, their success happen through their military's strength. They would definitely have to settle it first with smooth and peaceful talks. But as we can this isn't what Chinese are doing. And look at the countries to whom it's fighting against, the poor countries of the SEA especially Philippines. China claims everything that surround it its territory despite the fact that those surroundings also surround different countries and are in fact those countries' rightful territories. China simply thinks that he can do it with all its military strength. Well good luck, because even America despite being already a superpower, even more powerful than China also had a fair share of defeat.

China is a big boy and knows how to bully the kids. And it's leveraging the fact that these poor countries can't feed their own people - how are they supposed to defeat one of the largest military forces in the world? A frigging dirty player, it is.

The problem with international peace talks is that most of the countries wold likely oppose China because it's breaching the sovereignty of other countries and its economy rivals that of America and Europe. It's not a surprise that China has decided to use it's military might instead of charisma.

Yeah I agree China plays dirty especially regarding territorial rows. It uses its military and economic might to pressure other small claimants. Take for example the Bajo de Masinloc clash and the Spartly reclamation. But it is still nice to know that the Philippines and Vietnam are taking a strong stand about the issue.

China is like a big bully that pokes on little kids when their big brothers aren't looking. They have recently been picking on the Philippines, harassing fishermen by attacking their vessels. I wonder when these little countries will say "enough".

Malaysia can't feed its own people? Japan can't feed its own people? Who are you kidding? China has included these economic big-wigs in its to-be-bullied list simply because it thinks it's such a hotshot that even Japan and Malaysia couldn't stand a chance. China's about to regret its own arrogance. The Chinese officials don't know a thing about the art of war.

If it were really a fair player

This phrase actually made me laugh, there is no fair play in the 'Game of Nations' China is only looking out for the interests of Number 1, which is it's government and citizens (sometimes). Honestly anyone who expects more is a bit naive in my opinion.

China's aggressive geopolitics against neighboring countries is typical of any emerging global power. The histories of the Soviet Union, US and Russia reveal the same mindset, there isn't a shortage of examples where these powers violated the sovereignty of neighboring countries through economic destabilization and political and military intervention. Often to the point of destroying the lives of the native population for decades.

China, in traditional fashion, expects compliance with its ambitions among geographically close neighbors. This is an integral part of the foreign policy of any "superpower", to have a large area of unquestionable influence and authority. The reasons range from anticipating and countering future threats to controlling trade and natural resources. They have had an amount of success in their plan to contain India through the string-of-pearls strategy.

However, emerging Asian nations will not accept Chinese hegemony lying down. China is in an unfortunate position in that the power differential in the Asia-Pacific region isn't at all similar to what the US or the Soviet Union dealt with. It will be interesting to see how regional powers react to Chinese demands, which are bound to become increasingly unfavorable to others.

China wants to claim every territory in Asia. I won't be surprised if there would come a day in which China will start seeing potential islands from Western countries. Communism is the root of all evil.

From Utopia to Dystopia, and from Communism and Idealism, Socialism, any other ISM you want to throw in there sounds perfectly good.. on paper. In real life when these are enacted it's really on the human side whether they succeed or fail. And because the leadership thinks the way they do, unfortunately they're still on the failing side. And I wouldn't call it the root of all evil, but it is EVIL when evil hands work the routines and politics.

I am half Filipino and I do understand the possible dangers my country will face if ever China decides to be a bit friskier than they already are but at the same time I keep hoping they slip a bit further and have the collective force of the smaller countries surrounding it plus the fire power of the US teach 'em a lesson.

Every country plays dirty. It seems to be the only way to play at all.

Side note: China has always dealt with an internal struggle. The country is not just filled with blind sheep following a Communist regime. There are people fighting the good fight within the country. The more China technologically advances the more its people can learn. Even if their country limits how & where they can learn it.

Although I am an Indian, I would say that they are indeed playing it very smartly. Is it dirty? Yes it is, but they are ensuring that it's a safe game where no one can point a finger at them.

China has started to misuse it's powers only against weaker nations if it tried this against a powerful one it would not be able to cope and would have a hard time winning the battle. I reckon they are trying to strike first and defend the country from the enemy and crush all who try to fight the country first. The inner fight must be hard when you fight your own countrymen and wish this never had to happen and struggle to fight them as hard you would fight a outsider.

By poor countries, I didn't mean Japan or Malaysia. I meant countries like Philippines.

There is nothing smart or safe with what is China is doing. Its pretty much forcing the hands of the surrounding countries and sure enough because of their immaturity, their attacks are bound to become more aggressive. Once that happens, they will be up against a few countries each firing from a different direction.

NBC News: Japan Has Nuclear 'Bomb in the Basement,' and China isn't Happy
For decades, Japan has dedicated the whole of their defense force to provide complete military aid to ally countries and they have recently expressed their willingness to help countries continuously being harassed by the Chinese. And because of the threat North Korea also poses, the Japanese has requested the reversal of the policy that reprimands them from creating their own nuclear weapons. What more if that request goes through?
