Dubai Airshow: what to expect

Jet fighters, helicopters and some of the world’s most advanced passenger planes take to the UAE skies next week. Dubai Airshow is back and close to 90,000 people are expected to attend the five-day event. Daring displays by the aerobatic teams UAE’s Al Fursan and Patrouille de France – the Gallic version of the Red Arrows – will also delight the crowd.

What is the Dubai Airshow?
The biennial event at the purpose-built venue close to the Al Maktoum Airport runs from Sunday until Thursday. Mammoth deals have been clinched at the event over the years and competition between great rivals Airbus and Boeing gets fierce. In 2017, Airbus sold a staggering $52 billion (Dh190bn) worth of aircraft, while Boeing was not far behind with sales of about $47bn. Most were preliminary orders – not firm – but still noteworthy. In 2013, Boeing secured commitments worth a jaw-dropping $95bn. It is not clear if such deals will be made this year, but time will tell.

What about Boeing’s trouble with the 737 Max?
Part of Boeing’s huge deal in 2017 was flydubai’s order for as many as 225 of the 737 Max planes. But the jet remains grounded across the globe Since March after two deadly crashes involving the model. Boeing is confident the Max will be re-certified to fly soon but the fortunes of the company have suffered. Aviation enthusiasts will be hoping to hear an update about the plane during the show.

Is the show open to public?
Dubai Airshow is a trade event and is not open to the general public. But if you are in the vicinity of the Al Maktoum airport, then you might be able to catch some of the aerial displays.

When do the aerobatics take place?
Aircraft will take to the skies over Dubai from 2pm to 5pm every day. Not all planes at the show will fly but confirmed displays so far include an Airbus A330neo, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, French Rafale fighter and RAF Eurofighter Typhoon.

What other aircraft will appear?
Known as the "static display" – meaning not flying – the aprons will be cluttered with some of the famous and newest aircraft in the world. The US will display its stealth F22 Raptor and F35 Lightning jets. The Raptor is one of the most advanced planes around while the F35 will be making its first appearance at an air show in the Middle East. Could the US sell the F35 to countries in the region? It remains to be seen. Other classic military aircraft on display will include the A10 Thunderbolt, Apache attack helicopter and MV-22B Osprey.

The return of a Soviet classic
The appearance of an Ilyushin-76TD at the show will mark the rejuvenation of a classic. The 76 first flew in 1971 and became the backbone of the Soviet cargo fleet. It was extremely reliable in bad weather and could land comfortably on unpaved, remote airfields. Many operators still use the aircraft. The newer version is worth a look and is still a glimpse at classic Soviet aviation design. If you will not be attending the show, then travel along the coast road to Umm Al Quwain, where you can see an old 76 rusting by the Barracuda Beach Resort.

Is there anything else to know?
Conferences and panel discussions will be held daily to talk about the space industry, latest aviation trends, women in space, future of air cargo and efforts to streamline air traffic control. The UAE’s newly formed Edge defence giant will also have a big presence at the air show.

Dubai Airshow takes place from November 17 to 21. For more information visit the Dubai Airshow website.

Airbus To Bring Complete Product Line To Dubai Airshow

With the Dubai Airshow set to start on Sunday, companies are beginning to announce what they will have on show at the event. Yesterday, Boeing announced its focus will be on safety, innovation and partnerships. Meanwhile, Airbus will be bringing its full product line.

The Dubai Airshow occurs in the fourth quarter of the year every other year. The show is an opportunity for aviation-focused companies from around the world to come together and showcase their products in one place. This year, Airbus will have at least one each of its current products on display from a variety of different airlines.

Every aircraft on display
Airbus will have at least one of each of its current aircraft on display at this year’s Dubai Airshow from the Airbus A220 all the way up to the giant of the skies, the A380. While some of these aircraft will be from Airbus themselves, the remainder will be from Airbus customers.

The lineup will be kicked off with the Airbus A220. Coming from EgyptAir the aircraft will be on static display. The next aircraft up, the Airbus A320neo, will also be on static display, coming from Oman’s Salam Air.

Moving up to the widebody aircraft, Airbus will be bringing its own A330neo, the A330-900. This aircraft will take part in the flying displays. This will be accompanied by the Airbus A350-900 which will remain on the ground as part of the static display.

What about the Airbus A380?
Airbus will actually have two Airbus A380s on display in Dubai. One aircraft will be supplied by Emirates, with the other coming from Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways. You may wonder why Airbus is bringing the A380, seeing as it announced the end of the program in February.

While Airbus is no longer planning to manufacture the Airbus A380, it is still supporting the aircraft’s second-hand market. In March, the manufacturer told Simple Flying that this means sitting down with potential customers and working out how the A380 would fit into their operations. They mentioned Hi Fly as an example, stating that with Airbus’ help, the carrier completed their quickest roll out to service.

Airbus also told Simple Flying:

“A380s will fly for many years to come and we will, of course, continue to fully support the operators”
Beyond its line of commercial aircraft, other aircraft from Airbus will also be on show including Emirates’ corporate A319, and the Military A400M.

Dubai Airshow flying display announced

1573668077165.png

Military jets, civil aircraft and helicopters will be among the aircraft soaring above the DWC, Dubai Airshow site next week during the Dubai Airshow from 17–21 November, along with impressive aerobatic displays from some of the world’s most renowned aerial display team.

A key part of the biennial event, the flying display is an impressive way for manufacturers to demonstrate their aircraft abilities to the global aerospace industry as whole, in addition to providing an impressive spectacle for the 87,000 trade attendees expected at the event.

Aerobatic displays will include the French Air Force Patrouille de France, returning to the Dubai Airshow for the first time since 2011 and the UAE’s Al Fursan team. In addition, the world’s only aerobatic airline, UK-based display team the Blades, will perform at the event as part of their extended visit to the UAE.

Also flying will be an Airbus A330neo and a Boeing B787-9 as well as several helicopters including a Motor Sich Mi-2MSB-1 and an Mi38 and an ANSAT from Russian Helicopters.

On the defence side, the French Air Force will be demonstrating a Dassault Rafale and the Royal Air Force from the United Kingdom will perform with a Eurofighter Typhoon. The UAE Ministry of Defence displays throughout the week will include a Mirage 2000 and an F16.

Michele van Akelijen, managing director of show organiser Tarsus F&E LLC Middle East, said: “The flying display at the Dubai Airshow is always a highlight for trade visitors and exhibitors alike.” She adds, “The inclusion of new aircraft and aerobatic teams mean that this year will be the most impressive yet.”

The flying display will take place each afternoon during the Dubai Airshow from 2:00pm – 5:00pm, 17–21 November.

That would be awesome. If he is allowed to attend the exhibition, just ask him to interview PAC guys about Block 3, B and especially Post Block 3 whether we will convert it into a full MMRCA just like F-16A-> C, Gripen C->E . Also about AZM Prototype/Tech Demonstrator

Secondly, it would be a stupid move to simply wear blankets and sleep after inducting 50 block 3s bringing an overall fleet of 172 or whatsoever the figure is. Countries are still inducting 4++ gen fighters. They might have a long future as they are the main category of fighters being in most numbers around the world. We should bring our thunder fleet to 350 or 400. Introduce Low RCS designed thunders or Full fledged medium weight fighter with high ground clearance, more wingspan, hps, better avionics and armaments. Remember, the future and the now is mostly air warfare which is the key to defend ground/naval forces, we should blindly go for numbers, and high tech, procure f-16s even if you have to pay money but nothing less than Block 70, get J-15s with J-11D experience applied on it. If & if possible, try to get m2k from allies. Or directly go for J-20 after 2025. Go for extremely intense air defense environment around the country with many batteries of medium range followed by short range and lastly long range sams. Work on laser air defense systems. No one would ever try to come close to us ever if these measures are taken. Get 3 Type 052Ds as they pack a death package for IN naval groups and carrier group. The best measure we took was the procurement of 8 Subs, and if we follow up the order to 2 further more as the other forum suggests, we would have an extremely strong defensive military force, no one would dare to even think of messing with us. No matter what the enemy buys, these above steps will ensure our 100% survival
