Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are discussing the possibility of building a plant for the production of liquefied natural gas in western Kazakhstan, Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev told reporters, Interfax-Kazakhstan reported.

“We are considering the issue of construction of a liquefied gas production plant in Aktau for its further export to and transit through Azerbaijan. These issues are on the agenda,” Bozumbayev said.

In addition, he said, the possibility of creating a joint venture in Kazakhstan in the field of petroleum engineering is being discussed with Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan has a developed petroleum engineering industry. We are now discussing the creation of such plants in Kazakhstan with the participation of Azerbaijani capital, and using their experience, skills, and technologies, in order to sell the products to oil companies in the future," the minister said.

He stressed that since petroleum engineering products are imported by foreign companies in large quantities for the development of fields, the joint venture may start its activities with the assembly of oil and gas engineering equipment.

Bozumbayev also said the railway administrations of the two countries are discussing the possibility of supplying railcars and locomotives to Azerbaijan on pre-export financing terms.

Kazakhstan is working on opening direct regular flight to Japan in 2019, according to the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development.

The legal framework for operating regular flights between Kazakhstan and Japan has been created by the ministry in 2016, Trend reports via Kazinform.

"Airlines of Kazakhstan and Japan have the right to operate 14 regular flights per week from each side with no limits. The destinations of Kazakh air carriers are Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and for Japanese airlines are Astana, Almaty and Karaganda," reads a message from the Committee.

The Committee said that earlier the two countries didn’t have a legal framework for operating flights from Kazakhstan to Tokyo.

"Currently, work is underway with the relevant airlines for opening direct regular flights to Japan this year," said the message.

Twenty-one airlines operate in Kazakhstan, only four of which are really big enough to be called national carriers and compete in the Kazakh market of passenger air travel services.

Air Astana, SCAT, Bek Air and Qazaq Air are the leaders in the Kazakh skies, annually transporting thousands of people and thousands of tons of goods.

This summer, Swiss-based company EuroChem will begin construction of a complex for the production of fertilizers in Kazakhstan, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

At a meeting in Nur-Sultan, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Roman Sklyar and heads of MCC EuroChem Igor Nechaev, and of EuroChem-Karatau Dmitry Malyshev agreed to fully support EuroChem's project in Kazakhstan.

It is expected to sign the necessary agreements at the intergovernmental level, providing this support, with the reciprocal obligation of EuroChem on the construction of the plant. All documents are planned to be signed in June this year.

It should be noted that EuroChem is developing two deposits of the Karatau phosphorite basin in the south of Kazakhstan. The company started ore mining in 2014, and in 2016 the project reached its full capacity of 640,000 tons of phosphorite ore per year.

The new project of the company involves the launch of a chemical complex in Kazakhstan with a capacity of 1 million tons of fertilizers. Karatau deposits are considered as a resource base for the complex. EuroChem's investment in the project is estimated at $750 million.
