Does USA Isolation Still Help in our defense?

I think this situation is highly moot since we are hardly isolated. We haven't been isolated since Pearl Harbor. Saying that we are isolated is the equivalent is of putting our head in the sand.

I agree that it does help, but not as much. The thing is, getting on a plane bound for America is no small feat. Security is pretty tight. Also, hijacking a plane is something that many people are paranoid about. This means that they will often overreact, but it also means it will be very difficult to go by unnoticed. I could see how a private plane might be able to penetrate our space but since 9/11 we have expanded the surveillance of airspace outside the continent. Isolation harms us more in economic ways, I think, but not as far as safety.

We are still vulnerable. The isolation is going to serve as a huge force field. But it could buy us some time, at the very least.
