An Egyptian court ruled on Saturday to ban the armed wing of Palestine’s Hamas group and designated it as a terrorist organization, in a move that was slammed by the Islamist movement as ‘dangerous’

"The court ruled to ban the Qassam Brigades and to list it as a terrorist group," said Judge Mohammad al-Sayid of the special Cairo court which deals with urgent cases, according to Reuters news agency.

The case was based on allegations that the Qassam Brigades staged terrorist attacks to support the Muslim Brotherhood and carried out a bombing and shooting operation which killed 33 security personnel in the Sinai Peninsula in October of 2014.

Hamas, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood that Egypt listed as a terrorist group in 2013, was voted into power during 2007 elections in the neighboring Gaza Strip.

"We reject the Egyptian court's decision against the Qassam Brigades. It is a political, dangerous decision that serves only the Zionist [Israeli] occupation," Reuters quoted Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri as saying.

CAIRO (AFP) -- An Egyptian court on Saturday banned the armed wing of Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, declaring it a "terrorist" group.

Hamas denounced the ruling against the al-Qassam Brigades as "a dangerous political decision that serves the interests of the occupier," referring to Israel.

Since Egypt's military ousted democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, the authorities have accused Hamas of aiding militants who have waged a string of deadly attacks on security forces in the Sinai Peninsula. Hamas has categorically denied the accusations.

Saturday's court verdict followed a complaint from a lawyer accusing the Hamas armed wing of direct involvement in "terrorist operations" in the Sinai, which borders Gaza, a court official said.

The lawyer also accused the movement of using tunnels under the frontier between Egypt and Gaza to smuggle arms used in attacks against the police and army, the official said.

Egypt's military says it has destroyed more than 1,600 tunnels since Morsi's ouster.

In the ruling, the judge said that "the documents submitted by the plaintiff to the court showed that the organization has conducted attacks ... that targeted the military and the Egyptian police and facilities."

There was no immediate response to the court ruling from the al-Qassam Brigades itself, but a Hamas spokesman in Gaza said the armed wing should not be dragged into "Egypt's internal affairs."

Egypt must have some evidences that Hamas is somehow linked to what is happening in Sinai otherwise they would have blacklisted Hamas military wing as terrorist group.

No comment,at all .

Of course that's against Arabs benefits, but Muslim Brotherhood known by their plans against Egyptian government.I don't know who's the responsible for the last attack ,but listing Hamas as a" terror group " must be supported by clear evidence.Otherwise, we're serving the zionists by such this decision .

To be honest @Falcon29 , if Hamas supports Muslim Brotherhood in their projects or thoughts against arab countries ..Believe me it's a big problem to us and them and that won't benefit both sides.

Egypt has nothing to present. This is so typical of Arab people to scapegoat Palestinians in their problems. In reality the tensions in Sinai have been doing on for decades. The recent attack was filmed by Egyptians in Sinai. And guess what? They were cheering in the video. Especially after thousands were displaced during Egypt's buffer zone with Gaza.

Egypt in an attack in 2012 blamed Hamas and asked for 13 of their members. Half of those members were dead since 2008. The other half are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails. There is no explanation for this move.

Possibly to divert attention from economic crisis or just part of Zionist/Zionist Arab agenda against Muslims.

Muslim Brotherhood projects? Never heard of this....

But if you mean persecute people and radacilize them...not a good idea. Will only increase instability in Arab world. And is part of reason Iran is truimphing over Arab regimes all over Arab world.

Hamas wants nothing to do failed state called Egypt. Egypt just has an Israeli agenda. Please name one achievement Al-Sisi delievered to the Egyptian people, just one. You can't.

On other I hand I can name dozens of achievements he made for the Israeli people. If he's here to serve Israeli interests then he can get his ass back to Israel.

They are social movement, and sometimes enter elections? If done legally what's the problem bro?

Well its also failure of Arab nations to set straightforward policy on any issue. They never declare a policy. Not on Israel and not on Iran.

I agree with you, they're part of the egyptian people and that's inescapable matter (:-) ...but the problem is that they're trying to make their voices heard by force and non-legal actions.

The current government of the Egypt is pro-US now so they pretty much go against groups that opposed Israel and the US. The Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in Israel/Palestine are the thorn in the side of military-backed government of Egypt. Of course Egypt going to blacklist them.
