The Italian defence company Finmeccanica announced on 26 July that its Selex ES division will supply the Qatar Armed Forces with Kronos radars to monitor the country's airspace.

The Finmeccanica statement came over a year after Qatar said it was buying Kronos radars when it announced a series of contracts at the end of the DIMDEX naval show that it hosted in March 2014. It was stated at that time that the deal was worth QAR1.7 billion (USD467 million).

Finmeccanica has previously stated that Selex ES submitted a detailed proposal for a low-level radar system based on the Kronos to the Qatar Air Defence Development Committee in May 2013.
