Now tell...did any out of above you try ?:p

Danced the bhangra at school (lots of Sikhs) but the 'leader' was an Assamese, Kanak Thakuria, whom the Sikhs adopted as one of their own! I always thought the bhangra and jhoomar were typically Sikh and Hindu dances; it came as a shock to learn that Pakistanis also dance it. The gidda, too. This post was an eye-opener.

Now if I were to collate and present Indian dances, there would be a rush for the exits! There're so many of them, from the Naga head-hunter dances, through those in Arunachal, and Manipuri (that being one of the 'classic' dances, recognised as high culture, very feminine and graceful when the women perform, very manly when the men do), not to mention the other Manipuri dances, Pung Cholom, and the (slightly) less vigorous versions, the Khamba Thaibi, the Lai Haraoba, the Maibi and the Nupa. Then we get Santhal dances of several types, back in Chhotanagpur....I could go on and on. That's leaving out all the Punjabi and Rajasthani ones you've mentioned, and several Gujarati dances that don't seem to have counter-parts. If anyone is interested, I could put up a Pung Cholom performance, but at the moment, I'm grappling with the three videos, to put forth a fair and readable commentary, so I can only do some scissors and paste work.

@Hithchiker, old bean, how about some videos (not for the bhangra and the gidda and jhoomar, seen enough of those in real life, but the others, any of them)?

Actually bhangra is practiced in Central Punjab mostly....While i am not sure about Jummar ..I think Bhangra is approximately same but Jhummar is quite change here mostly practiced in South Punjab/Balochistan aread/Sindh Border areas...I have seen some videos of Indian side too ..May be i am wrong in my conclusion..You can see the video above though it might have somewhere some resemblance unlike Bhangra that is ditto..
