QUETTA: Security forces arrested four Qatari princes and three local men from Pakistan’s border town of Nushki for illegal hunting.

The security forces confiscated four trained falcons, commonly used to hunt birds.

According to official sources, the men were making arrangements for hunting at time of arrest.

As winter begins, members of Arab royal families from Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar arrive in Pakistan for hunting the endangered bird houbara bustard.

One of the man, whose nationality could not be established, sustained a gunshot injury after putting up resistance to security personnel. However, it is yet to be known whether he was injured by firing of his companions or the security personnel.

Earlier this year on February, 16 members of an entourage of the Emir of Qatar were arrested for breaking a barrier of a Levies checkpoint in Nushki district.

Official sources then said an advance party of the Emir of Qatar was enroute to Mashkeel to make arrangements for hunting the houbara bustard when it ignored Levies personnel’s signal to stop at their post for checking. The entourage reportedly tried to escape by breaking the Levies barrier.

“The arrested members of Emir of Qatar’s staff included three Bangladeshi nationals and 13 Pakistanis,” a senior administrator of Nushki district said.

Random hunting should be banned to preserve the wildlife specially for endangered animals. The staff that helped them navigate should be severely punished. There have been couple of incidents where also Emirates and Saudis were arrested for illegal hunting in Pakistan. Now most of them shifted to Algeria and some other Africans countries.

Does Pakistan permit any kind of hunting on its territory? Or hunting is completely banned?

I saw this video and to tell you I was extremely disgusted.

This was not hunting. It was blood-lust. There was nothing sporting about it, to stand by the road-side and pot an animal grazing peacefully.

Indeed. There is nothing sporting about it. Shooting a peaceful animal alongside the road for no apparent reason. I have seen another video of migrant birds hunting.

Look at those stupid.

Hunting camels? Really? Even my spelling correction didn't agree on lumping these two words and suggested alternative sentence. Are they going to eat it now? or just doing it for pleasure.

How could anyone hunt this beautiful creature?

Hunting a donkey? You can just run after it and capture it alive.

Truly sickening pictures.

At moments like this, one is ashamed of belonging to the same race as these bipeds. One hesitates to call them animals, and dignify them.

Actually hunting Ibex (as shown in video)and blue sheep is allowed subject to the number of license issued ...This article provides more detail on it..

GILGIT:
The Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) government has announced the licence fee for this year’s hunting season with Pakistan’s national animal Markhor topping the list at $70,000.

According to an official of the G-B Wildlife and Environment Department, Sajjad Haider, permits will be auctioned on November 11 in Gilgit and the hunting season will continue till April 2014. A quota of four markhors, eight blue sheep and six ibexes has been fixed this season.

The rate for hunting blue sheep is fixed at $12,000. The cost for hunting ibex varies, with international hunters having to pay $3,000 for a permit. Pakistani hunters, however, can purchase a licence for almost half that amount, Rs150,000, while the same is available for a G-B hunter at Rs60,000.

Last year, a fee of $6,250 and $2,500 (for international hunters) had been fixed for blue sheep and ibex, respectively.

Interested people have been asked to deposit $10,000 for markhor, $2,000 for blue sheep and $1,000 for ibex as guarantee prior to participation in the permit auction.

The trophy hunting programme that started in the 1990s has been going on every year in G-B. It is carried out under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wildlife and is allowed only in the notified areas of G-B in collaboration with the concerned communities.

According to last year’s statistics, revenue generated from the trophy hunting programme in the region was $1,246,740.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) the markhor population in Pakistan has increased. Surveys last year suggested the population in all of Gilgit-Baltistan may now be as high as 1,500 animals. According to government estimates, in 1999 there were less than 1,000 markhors in the area.

How hunting along the side road is possible. Shouldn't they be away from urban areas like in the desert or something. I have noticed the man didn't bother to go right away to slaughter goat as per the Islamic law. He was watching the poor goat dying slowing in excruciating pain.:,(

Actually these are remote mountainous and hilly areas...These animals are not found in desert..Also most of time license being issued to foreigners so eating is not the sole purpose and no need to slaughter it subsequently ..

Thanks for the info. But how come Pakistan let foreigners play with its wildlife for pleasure only. What is the purpose of killing an animal if not going to eat from it? They can go to any shooting club and practice all the want instead of shooting here and there disturbing the eco system.

Actually the provincial government earn revenue from it and spend on the reproduction and preservation of these species. As per the local government "this trophy hunting" has contributed positively in increasing the no of these species as this allow locals to take care and provide environment of more breeding...
Government is basically less care to spend on them itsels....
They are mostly shown as symbol of hunting (e.g displaying the head with horns on the wall) by the people who killed them after securing license ...

Hmmm sounds interesting. So tell what happens after they do the hunting? Do just they leave? I think the animal hunted should at least be giving to the province or distributes its meat to the needy if any.

@khafee have you ever done hunting ?œ∑¥
As far as i know hunting for meat is different then hunting for trophy and in this case meat is discarded and only the head or tusk is taken as trophy.
