French Air Force recreates wing structure
The French Air Force will complete its return to a wing-based structure by the beginning of September, with seven new 'escadres' (wings) being created between 25 August and 3 September.
The move started on 25 August with the Cazaux-based 8th Escadre, which will bring together three Alphajet-equipped squadrons and a dedicated maintenance unit.
On 26 August the 4th Escadre was recreated in Saint Dizier. This will be following be the recreation of the remaining wings: 64th Escadre de transport in Evreux on 27 August, 61st Escadre de transport in Orleans on 1 September, 2nd Escadre de chasse in Luxeuil on 3 September, and the 30th Escadre de chasse in Mont de Marsan on 3 September.
