Footage shows French paratroopers boarding a plane before being dropped over northern Niger in the middle of the night. The video, released by the French military, was reportedly taken in early April during an operation to support regional forces fighting the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram. France bases 3,000 troops in Chad as part of Operation Barkhane, to combat terrorism in Africa's Sahel region.

Too bad that, according to sources, the main convoy targeted in this operation got away.
