One of the original reasons stated to justify demonetisation was that it will have a considerable impact on the militants in the valley. Although the central government had repeatedly changed its reasons for the note ban subsequently.
The MHA response also revealed that there had been a sharp increase in the ceasefire violations at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. While the number of ceasifre violations was just 153 in 2014, it reached a whopping 771 in 2017 upto 10 December. This was more than 300% increase since 2016.
