Yaakov Lappin, Tel Aviv - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
15 October 2015
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has received its first upgraded C-130H Hercules transport aircraft, the official IAF magazine said on 11 October.
The aircraft has received a new radar, digital avionics, and has had its wing box replaced to extend its lifespan.
The work is being carried out by Elbit Systems working in collaboration and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) under a contract awarded in December 2012.
All parties have been reluctant to reveal the systems that are being installed and the number of aircraft involved. However, the IAF confirmed that the plan is that the 131st (Knights of the Yellow Bird) Squadron will exclusively fly the upgraded C-130Hs until about 2040.
