This is shameful news under Modi. A country which is itching to fight a 2 front war with both (nuclear nations) Pakistan & China is short on funds for its soldier's uniforms. One must salute Pakistan in this regards who does not do such things:

What? is that a genuine news. Uniform is the responsibility of the state to provide. If true they should resign and save themselves the embarrassment.

India has quite a large defense budget roughly about $50 bl and soldiers uniforms are part of that budget are they not?

Lets hear what @Joe Shearer @jbgt90 @Nilgiri are going to say about this.

Defence ministry has rejected this news. Its rumor mongering + jumping the gun (quoting unnamed "officials" as usual - probably bureaucrats affected by the changes) simply because some acquisition procedures are being streamlined:

https://economictimes.indiatimes.co...ops-defence-ministry/articleshow/64455143.cms

NEW DELHI: The defence ministry has said there will be no shortage in provisioning for uniforms and that it has been channelising the ordnance factories towards more efficient production of critical stores and equipment.

But of course usual quarters are jumping up and down...it is no surprise. This is a a more detailed article:

How Rahul Gandhi got it wrong about Army uniform

...and a certain person here has major egg on his face now too. This is the problem when you rush to copy paste farticles without giving some time for actual fact-checking.

The blame lies squarely on Indian media and not Pakistan media.

I think Modi knows the capability of the Indian army and thought of cutting the budget to utilize it somewhere else.
