India has conducted a test of an indigenously designed ballistic missile defense system on Abdu Kalam island. The test involved the launch of the single stage Ashvin Advanced Defence Interceptor missile from mobile launchers and successfully destroyed an oncoming nuclear capable Dhanush ballistic missile at altitudes of 20 to 40km. The Dhanush has a range of 350km. A consortium of 40 Indian companies were involved in the development of the missile shield.

Do you have any further information on this missile system? What western missile systems is this comparable to? How much does this system cost/how long have they been working on this system for? I have never previously heard of this defense system before now - I didn't realize India was making movements in this area and developing their own native systems as they usually purchase a mixture of equipment from Western and Russian arms companies, with them sometimes manufacturing the systems under license in India.
