Iran S-300 contract ready to be signed

Iran and Russia have finalised a contract covering the delivery of four S-300 surface-to-air missile batteries, Iranian defence minister Hossein Dehghan told journalists on 18 August.

Russia displayed an S-300V-series system during its Army 2015 show in June 2015. The fact that the system was painted in a desert colour suggested it was one of the ones being produced for Egypt. Some Russian reports have claimed Cairo ordered S-300VM batteries, while others have described them as S-300V4, raising questions about the extent to which the export model differs from the version in service with the Russian Ground Forces. "The text of the contract is ready and our friends will go to Russia next week to sign the contract," the Fars News Agency quoted him as saying. He added that Iran was initially going to order three batteries, but decided to increase the number to four.

Dehghan's comments were corroborated by Russian deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov. "We have reached full understanding on the matter together with our Iranian partners. The question has been fundamentally solved.
