No, conquer the world please, with your mullah soldiers. :)

Your influence has been always limited in ME since we came into the region...which makes a millennium.

Meaning, Turks confined Iranian influence in the ME since 1000 years and it's not gonna change anytime soon.

Mullahs have been able to gain more grounds outside Iran's borders. You keep thinking about the past and we are looking for the future.

Iran-supplied T-72 tanks appearance at Battle of Tikrit

Following rumors this week of “company-sized” Iranian tank contingent taking part in the Battle of Tikrit, a Reuters photograph published today has captured imagery of what is in all likelihood an IRGC-GF supplied T-72S.

The tank seen above is clearly distinguishable from Iraqi Army T-72M1 type MBTs by the fitments for Kontakt-1 ERA tiles (removed on this example), turret side-mounted smoke grenade canisters and IRGC-GF type camouflage pattern.

Commentary: IRGC-QF tactics developed in the Syrian theater of war make use of mixed armor and infantry in the assault role, so evidently Iranian military tacticians have seen the need in Iraq for application of armor providing direct fire support for Iran-led coalition forces.

If it is confirmed that Iraqi Shia militia forces– such as Kata’ib Hizbullah– are now operating Iranian-supplied T-72 main battle tanks, this implies Iranian training, and a significant increase in combat power for elements of Iran-led coalition forces waging war against ISIL and Al-Qaeda linked armed groups.

Iran reportedly sends missiles to Iraq to help battle ISIS | New York Post

Iran has reportedly deployed an arsenal of high-powered artillery rockets and missiles to Iraq in an effort to help that country’s military and Shiite militias in an ongoing campaign against ISIS.

Iran’s deployment of Fajr-5 artillery rockets and Fateh-110 missiles, combined with the Iraqi military recently amassing 30,000 troops, has raised concern among US officials about possible sectarian tensions in the region, according to The New York Times.

Iraqi forces were partially trained by American military, and the US has been unwilling to commit ground troops to the fight.

Shiite militias, with backing from Iran, have played a major part in the campaign against ISIS and have helped Iraqi forces drive the group out of Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit.

Looting in Iraq’s Tikrit after city retaken

Shiite fighters from the Popular Mobilisation units rest in Tikrit on April 1, 2015, a day after the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory in the weeks-long battle to retake the northern Iraqi city from ISIS (AFP)

AFP, Tikrit
Thursday, 2 April 2015

Pro-government militiamen were seen looting shops in the centre of the Iraqi city of Tikrit on Wednesday after its recapture from the Islamic State jihadist group in a month-long battle.

The militiamen took items including clothing, shampoo and shaving cream from two shops in central Tikrit before driving away.

Two trucks were also seen leaving Tikrit loaded with new tyres, a generator and a mirror that fell out and shattered on the highway.

While localised, the incidents raise concerns over how the myriad militiamen now in the city will conduct themselves.

As they have in other areas, militiamen also spray painted the names of their groups on houses and shops in the city, including on unbroken windows that had survived the fighting.

Baghdad turned to Shiite militias to bolster its flagging forces after Islamic State of Iraq and Syria group (ISIS) jihadists led a sweeping offensive that overran large areas north and west of Baghdad last year.

They have played a major role in successful operations against IS, but have also been accused of abuses including summary executions, kidnappings.

Human Rights Watch said this month that both security forces and militias "engaged in deliberate destruction of civilian property" after breaking a months-long siege of the town of Amerli last year.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon said during a visit to Baghdad this week that Iraq must "bring volunteer armed groups fighting in support of the government under government control".

"Civilians freed from the brutality of Daesh should not have to then fear their liberators," he said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

U.S. seeing rapid expansion of Sunni outreach at new Anbar base
WASHINGTON | By Phil Stewart

The United States is seeing signs that new efforts to draw Sunni tribesmen into Iraq's battle against Islamic State may be taking root at a military base near the fallen capital of Sunni-dominated Anbar province, U.S. officials say.

A U.S. defense officials told Reuters the first group of 500 Sunni recruits would soon complete training at the Taqaddum military base near the city of Ramadi, making way for a second group of about 500 Sunnis who have agreed to participate.

The number of confirmed Sunni recruits for Taqaddum is double the amount first disclosed last month by the U.S. military and follows U.S. President Barack Obama's June 10 order to deploy American troops for the first time to the base.

About 400 American troops are now working at Taqaddum, some engaging with Sunni tribal leaders but not directly training the forces, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Iraq's army has been burdened by a legacy of sectarianism in Anbar, whose dominant Sunni population resented former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's Shi'ite majority government and were incensed when he ordered troops to clear a protest camp in Ramadi in December 2013.

One of the goals of the U.S. deployment to Taqaddum is encouraging Sunni tribes to join the battle against Islamic State, drawing in fighters who felt unsafe traveling to the other U.S. outpost in Sunni-dominated Anbar province, at the Ain al-Asad air base.

Taqaddum is located only about 15 miles (25 km) from Ramadi, Anbar's capital, which fell to Islamic State fighters in May. Iraq is readying a counteroffensive to retake it.

The Sunni recruits at Taqaddum would represent a significant chunk of Sunni recruits so far for the still overwhelmingly Shi'ite popular mobilization forces. The first U.S. official estimated about 6,000 Sunni recruits.

A second official said Sunnis had so far demonstrated commitment to the training - noting that all 500 had returned to the base after a brief break to celebrate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan with their families.

Iraq's government also appeared invested, quickly providing small arms and ammunition for the Sunnis and directing funds to improve base facilities for them.

"There's a large (Sunni) population out there that’s ... going to wait and see if this takes or not. And these are indications to me that this has taken," the second official said.

Iraqi operation to retake Anbar province underway

Iraqi troops backed by mainly Shi'ite Muslim militias launched military operations on Monday to recapture the country's largest province Anbar from ISIS militants, a military statement broadcast on state television said.

The announcement of the offensive comes two months after ISIS militants seized Anbar's capital Ramadi, extending their control over the Sunni Muslim province west of Baghdad.

"At 5 o'clock this morning operations to liberate Anbar were launched," said a joint military command statement read out on state television.

It said the offensive was being carried out by the army, mainly Shi'ite militia known as Hashid Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) units, special forces, police and local Sunni Muslim tribal fighters.

The statement gave no other details, but military officers and Hashid Shaabi commanders have said the initial target will be the city of Falluja, about 50 km (30 miles) west of Baghdad.

Hadi al-Ameri, commander of the largest Shi'ite force, the Badr Organisation, told Iraqi television on Sunday he expected the main assault on Falluja to take place after the Eid holiday at the end of Ramadan, later this week.

Residents in Falluja and Ramadi reported heavy bombardment of both cities early on Monday. Security sources said ISIS insurgents also fired rockets and launched several vehicle bombs against army positions.

Coalition-trained Iraqi troops join battle against ISIS

Thursday, 23 July 2015

Iraqi troops trained by the U.S.-led coalition have joined the battlefield for the first time, a U.S. Pentagon spokesman said Thursday, and are battling the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group to retake Ramadi.

"As many as 3,000" Iraqi soldiers trained and armed by the coalition are taking part in ongoing operations to reconquer the Anbar provincial capital, Colonel Steven Warren said.

"This is a development we are very satisfied to hear," he told reporters in Baghdad during a visit by U.S. Defence Secretary Ashton Carter.

The 9,000 Iraqi army fighters who have been trained by foreign troops had not yet been sent to battle against ISIS.

Their participation in operations against ISIS, which controls most of Anbar as well as Iraq's second city Mosul, is an important stage in the U.S. strategy against the jihadist group.

Washington has around 3,500 troops deployed in Iraq to advise and train government forces in their effort to reconquer the land they lost a year ago.

U.S. President Barack Obama's strategy in tackling ISIS has been criticized as ineffective both domestically and in Iraq.

ISIS has in the space of two years risen to become the world's most powerful jihadist organization and has franchises wreaking havoc in several countries in the Middle East and beyond.

Top Iraq Shiite cleric calls for protection of army families

Associated Press, Baghdad
Friday, 24 July 2015

Iraq’s top Shiite cleric has called on the government in Baghdad to do all it can to protect the families of Iraqi forces fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, saying they are an “easy prey” for extremists bent on revenge attacks.

In his Friday sermon, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani also said authorities should implement tough policies to catch and punish those who attack innocent civilians.

Al-Sistani’s appeal comes amid mounting pressure on the government to catch and prosecute those responsible for last week’s massive bombing in eastern Diyala province that killed 115 people as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan was coming to an end.

Many women and children were among the victims in the predominantly Shiite district of Khan Bani Saad.

The ISIS group has claimed responsibility for that attack.

Iraq forces retake university on edge of Ramadi

Iraqi government forces recaptured a university campus Sunday on the outskirts of Ramadi from the Islamic State group, seizing a key position for any offensive to retake the city, officials said.

Iraqi forces had recaptured parts of Anbar University in May, shortly after losing the provincial capital to the jihadists, but later pulled back.

The university was retaken by elite forces from Iraq’s Counter Terrorism Service (CTS), known as the “Golden Brigade”.

“The Golden Brigade managed to liberate Anbar University with backing from the army as well as air support from the coalition and Iraqi aircraft,” Brigadier General Abdelamir al-Khazraji, deputy commander of CTS forces in Anbar, said.

“Our forces liberated the university early Sunday and now have full control of it, following a week of fierce clashes,” he told AFP.

“The Iraqi flag is flying above the university presidency once again,” he said.

A statement from CTS said the Iraqi special forces had “inflicted heavy human and material losses to the enemy.”

Ramadi Mayor Dalaf al-Kubaysi said: “What was left of the insurgents fled the area.”

Anbar University’s vast compound lies south of the main highway that circles Ramadi from the south.

Iraqi forces had retaken two neighbourhoods south of the highway and parts of the university campus days after the devastating May 17 fall of Ramadi.

They later pulled back as IS continued to attack Iraqi positions east of the city and commanders regrouped to organise a counteroffensive across the entire province.

The US-led coalition formed a year ago when IS threatened to conquer even larger swathes of Iraq has carried out thousands of strikes in support of Iraqi regular forces.

On July 24 alone, the US military said five air strikes in the Ramadi area destroyed IS positions and vehicles.

Iraqi forces had held on to parts of Ramadi for nearly 18 months before buckling in the face of a three-day jihadist blitz during which IS unleashed an unprecedented number of truck bombs.

The government is now focusing its military efforts on Anbar, a province which stretches west from the outskirts of Baghdad to the borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

NATO allies have agreed on a package of measures to help strengthen Iraqi security and defense forces, including in the fields of military training, demining and countering improvised explosive devices.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the aid program, approved Friday by NATO member nations, is designed to help Iraq by providing support in areas where NATO “is best placed to add value.”

Stoltenberg said the assistance program was developed at Iraq’s request, and in close consultation with Iraqi authorities.

NATO plans to help Iraq in seven priority areas. They include advising on security sector reforms, civil military planning, cyber defense, military medicine and civil emergency planning.

Stoltenberg said NATO and Iraqi experts will now work out details of the training programs, which will be held in Turkey and Jordan.

Saturday, 1 August 2015

The United Nations says at least 1,332 Iraqis were killed by violence in July amid the war against the Islamic State group, a slight drop from June.

The U.N. mission to Iraq said Saturday that at least 844 civilians were among the dead, while 488 members of Iraqi security forces and pro-government militias fighting ISIS were killed. It put the number of the wounded at 2,108. Baghdad was the worst affected province with 335 people killed.

In June, at least 1,466 people were killed and 1,687 were wounded.

Violence has escalated in Iraq after the ISIS offensive began last year. Iraqi forces have been struggling to regain control of the areas lost to the militants.
