I was of the opinion that he simply received so much media coverage because, regardless of what you think of his politics, he makes a change. He provides some much-needed controversy which sparks people's interest and keeps them watching. Trump = viewers, viewers = cash.

Trump gets attention because the US mainstream media is a circus and he is willing to be a clown, feeding clickbait into their 24hour "news" cycle of pointless emotional responses to essentially meaningless antics.

He is the piano-playing cat of domestic politics. Everyone looks at it, everyone talks about it, but no one's life is really going to be changed by it.

I think perhaps you underestimate the collective frustration of the silent, beaten down majority of people in America. There are people who really want a return to traditional values, and the re-emergence of the free market system. Then again, perhaps not, only time will tell. In the meantime, to mock this "clown" might be a risky endeavor, and embarrassing in the long run.

I think I understand those things very well. Of course his run is not viable in the long run. Even he probably knows that. It does not matter. He is manipulating her personal brand to make even more money from niche right wing Americans. The free market is a game he is playing and winning.

What this has to do with "traditional values" I am not sure. I suspect a fundamentalist Christian and a socialist free love hippy are annoyed by Trump for similar reasons. Vainglory is a broadly apparent quality that few admire unless you can overpower it by appealing to deep angers and prejudices.

Just curious about what's risky about mocking this clown? As far as it being embarrassing in the long run, I'm not sure what you mean by that, either. Unless you mean embarrassed to be an American if he gets any votes, at all. I can see that, and am in total agreement. But still having trouble understanding what could be risky about making fun of him and everything about him. You know, since he is nothing but a joke with a bad comb over.

Well I don't understand what the tired old saw about his comb-over has to do with his politics either. That's become cliche over the years. No I wasn't saying that people would be embarrassed BY him if he won. I am assuming that was a joke? The risky part comes in calling him a clown. Even if he doesn't win an election, he's waking a lot of people up. There are those who really DO take him seriously. Those who make fun of him may end up looking like the clowns.

The bad comb over remark was a joke. I really don't give 2 poop about his hair. I meant what I said about being embarrassed to be an American if he wins. As for the risk, I disagree that there is any risk at all. And, all playing aside, completely serious... I don't think there is any risk making fun of him for the simple facts jokes are MEANT to be laughed at. Thats actually their sole purpose.

Oh I agree, if that rule applies to anyone. Any time I've ever heard Obama being the butt of a joke, there's always a lib jumping in and somehow bringing racism into it. It's the same thing with Bruce Jenner. If someone makes a joke about how "old and ridiculous" he looks, they're in danger of being called a homophobe. I wish people WOULD lighten up, and enjoy teasing and joking, like we used to, but it's a two-way street. Personally, I don't see anything funny about The Donald. I would love to see him as our next president. If he doesn't win, and he splits the Republican party, so be it. I don't have any use for the Repubs either.

The GOP won't be split by Trump, he isn't that popular.

All the attention he has got from the media and polls results in a few states would seem to indicate that Trump might be a force to reckon with. The FACT though is most Americans hate Trump. While I must admit there is a small percentage of voters who admire him, the majority don't and that's what counts.

I get the feeling that Trump is trolling the citizens of the US to pander to them because he sees his opportunity to get what he wants out of them now that Obama's made a mess of things. Just a gut feeling that he switched political parties when the time was right to get in on the action and convince the world that he is their next dear leader. You're right, the media makes a lot of money off of promoting his agenda in that. Their ratings soar whenever he's on, because the masses eat it up like candy. So they'll prmote him and keep doing it for as long as the gravy train lasts.

I'm sorry if I didn't click the link. It is my habit not to click links in posts to avoid being spammed. But anyway, the topic seems to be about Donald Trump. I understand that some people are confused by the character of Trump and his bravado is often out of line. But amid all these, he is still leading in the surveys and let's admit that the numbers would decide in the final tally. So my take is that Republicans will rally to push for Trump when he finally emerges as the GOP candidate.

I see a lot of people who sincerely believe that Trump's decisions will be drawn from his egocentrism and conservative delusions, but what's funny is that his exact political tactics are outright explained in his books on corporate practice. The art of the deal, always reaching high and and then lowering the ceiling. He's spewing these seemingly insane things because of the fact it gets him exposure. At heart, he doesn't really believe everything he says, but he knows the tactics will portray him like a loose-canon comedy politician on the edge; and in the age where Americans are jaded by disappointing politicians such as Obama, it's not out of the question that people would support him.
