Israel's aerial campaign engagement policies

In this thread, I will describe the nature of Israel's targeting policy(Air Force) when it comes to Palestinian territories or Lebanon. I will start with:

1. 'Knock on roof', civilian family targets

I often hear from media, during aerial assaults on the Gaza Strip, that Israel sends a warning missile(Or known as 'roof knocking') prior to the actual missile destroying a home. There are many cases where there aren't warnings. I want to focus on video's providing evidence that these warning decoy missiles come about 1-2 minutes prior to the actual deadly attack, unlike what we are told in media.

Here is the first example I'm able to find:


Literally in the beginning of the video, we can see either the first or second decoy missile being fired at around 0:03 into the video, a son in the household can be heard pleading for help, that he needs help to get his possibly handicapped father out. The neighbors yell tell them to get out as quick as possible, some men maybe down there trying to get them out. But it appears it was too late for the father, we can see the actual missile hits at about 1:01 into the video, making that about 57 seconds between the warning and the actual firing.

Now if you don't understanding Israel's engagement policy, it targets homes of certain families. For example, let's say your son is a member of the British Armed forces, it is likely Israel will target his family's home if he lives with them. In Gaza(Palestine), most people live with family, in two or three story buildings as they can't afford to have a house on their own. So the whole family, even extended family in some cases will get targeted. Sometimes they are warned, and escape in time. Sometimes they are warned but have little time to escape. And sometimes they are not warned and this happens:

Also if you are in any way related to any ministry or part go the government, your home is likely to be targeted. These are the type of targets selected in Israel's air campaign, strictly before any ground invasion, not part of a ground invasion. If there is a ground invasion, that's when more people are endangered, because homes in the area of battle could get hit form shells or air strikes.

2nd video:


In this video we see the warning decoy missile(if it literally hits you it will kill you) at around 0:02, the actual missile hits around 1:10, making that about 68 seconds. Which is not a lot of time if you have no idea you were on target list and have no involvement in military or government.

2. Targeting Vehicles

This is common as well, Israel will target motorbikes or vehicles which carry suspected Palestinian fighters. To be fair to Israel, sometimes that is the case. Other times it isn't. Here is a case where Palestinians soldiers were targeted(WARNING VERY GRAPHIC):

In rare cases, when Israel suspects a soldier is captured by Palestinian fighters, it will target almost every vehicle in the area at the time, which is not a legal measure, as opposed to the previous one. Especially when Israel sparks the gunfight. One example was this 2014. A temporary ceasefire was declared, with John Kerry(US secretary of state) declaring that Israel can't do any operations with its ground forces during this period. However, Israel did enter a home and try conducting an ground operation described below:

Israeli forces had also targeted Rafah on Friday after Palestinian militants carried out an operation in the city which left two soldiers dead and one missing.

Hamas' militant wing says the operation took place at 7:00 a.m., an hour before the ceasefire was to start.

"What happened east of Rafah Friday morning was that occupation forces took advantage of the alleged humanitarian ceasefire to penetrate our land for more than two kilometers," a statement from the al-Qassam Brigades said early Saturday.

"We estimate that our fighters who were in the area clashed with the Israeli troops around 7:00 a.m before the alleged ceasefire went into effect. Then, Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling targeted Palestinian civilians after 10:00 a.m breaching the ceasefire under the pretext of searching for a missing soldier."

"We lost contact with a group of fighters ... when Israeli occupation forces penetrated east of Rafah. We suspect that they were all killed by Israeli shelling, including the Israeli soldier who, supposedly, was abducted by the group."

Israeli forces pound Rafah overnight, killing dozens....

Afterwards, Israel implements a directive, of heavy shelling, aerial bombing of all vehicles in general area. Israel claimed an soldier was captured, that wasn't true, he was already dead long ago. And Israel declared funeral for the soldier. Amnesty however describes what followed afterwards:

• Reconstruction of Israeli attacks in Rafah between 1 and 4 August 2014
• Strong evidence of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity revealed requiring urgent investigation
• Israeli forces killed at least 135 Palestinian civilians, including 75 children, following the capture of an Israeli soldier
• Hundreds of videos, photos and satellite images analysed by experts, cross-referenced with eyewitness testimony
• Advanced techniques used to analyse evidence, including studying shadows and smoke plumes in multiple videos to determine time and location of an attack

Regarding the moving vehicles:

Eyewitness accounts described horrifying scenes of chaos and panic as an inferno of fire from F-16 jets, drones, helicopters and artillery rained down on the streets, striking civilians on foot or in cars, as well as ambulances and other vehicles evacuating the wounded.

Satellite images and photographs analysed for the report show craters and damage indicating that hospitals and ambulances were attacked repeatedly during the assault on Rafah, in violation of international law.

An ambulance carrying a wounded old man, woman and three children was struck by a drone-fired missile, setting it alight and burning everyone inside including medical workers to death.

3.) Targeting apartment complexes/towers

This was a policy unseen before, in 2014, Israel first employed a directive of targeting and destroying complete apartment complexes. Strictly to severely damage civilian infrastructure, making it more difficult to reconstruct the complexes/homes, or prolonging the reconstruction process. Of course the people are evacuated prior, otherwise it would be massacre.
