In terms of flight performance Pakistani pilots put jF-17 equivalent with F-16.
BlkIII is expected to have AESA radar as a major upgrade, along side HMS.
F-16 has higher payload and ferry range. jF17 BlkII already have IFR to compensate the ferry range /loiter time.
F-16 on the other hand is expensive and is limited in flexibility of upgrades. Basically, F-16 is a black box for its customers.
jF-17 has low RCS, it's low weight, modern ECM, modular in design, low cost, easy to fly, easy to service, easy integration.

I think I have seen PAF f-16 with an indigenous missile hocked up in it.

for a while PAC/CAC were keen on testing JF-17 in Yemen to boost exports for the JF-17 and rumorly the Saudi Air Force has interest in the JF-17, but it would most likely be Block III of the JFT.
on the other note, CAC/PAC offered Egypt JF-17 with local production and supplied kits.

How do you folks rate III in comparison to the f-16? will it outperform if not already?

JF was designed with the help of Pilots who flew F-16 that is why there are certain similarities between them , PAF goal was to build JF more or less like F-16 so they can add Quality without compromising the Quantity .

1- Production has been started, officially confirmed.
2- As we already know, It will have integrated but more elaborate EW suit system.
3- More advance data sharing and integration with other plat forms, claimed (by officials) to be top in the market.
4- Data link is also upgraded.
5- Additional fuel pockets in wings.

air-to-air refueling system will have improvements.
Chinese CM-400AKG supersonic anti-ship missiles is being integrated for naval role.
Also newer A2A missiles are being integrated.
