John Kerry Heading to Ukraine Amid Concern Over Conflict

Joh Kerry seems to be going there just to offer moral support and talk lots. It will help out the Ukrainians since they are no longer getting natural gas from Russia and they need lots of hot air to warm them up.

US Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Ukraine next week amid growing global concern over the intensifying nine-month war in the country's east that has killed more than 5,000 people.

The trip will come as the EU and the US are mulling fresh sanctions against Russia, accused of arming and aiding the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The U.S is certainly not helping Ukraine with all this talk and sending secretaries of state over to show the West's solidarity. Had the U.S not had a hand in ousting Yanukovych, we wouldn't have this war. The best thing the government should have done is stay away from Ukraine. Why the hell can't they learn? How many Iraqs and Afghanistans does the U.S government want to create?

Was it you who posted in another forum that USA is its own worst enemy ? USA uses bandaide solution which in the short term work, but in the long term ends up biting them in the ass. American foreign policy seems insane sometimes.

One would think after Uncle Sam has tried something once and finds out it's not working, the lesson would have been well learned. But hey, every leader thinks he's smarter than his predecessor. The thought they can do better has them pursuing the same old foreign policies . . .

What can moral support during such times? It would be most welcome but... why not supply the citizens with resources instead? The war definitely pushed many households into the brink of poverty. Perhaps Kerry would do well to offer refugees some food if not a place to stay in America.

I think that with this visit things are gonna get worse. How's it's gonna get worse is that it will only provoke Russia into thinking more that it isn't really Ukraine who wants them to be separated from Russia but the US itself and that to do be successful US is backing up Ukraine with their fight to be separated from Russians. Uncle Sam is like that really smart, generous guy, who can hold down a high paying job, but has a secret drug habit. So most of the time things are going really well, and then Uncle Sam snorts lots of cocaine or something and goes crazy. Then when he gets back to normal, he is the smart and generous guy.

I have no other logical explanation for it. The USA can do all sorts of amazing things like stick a man on the moon, but other things they just seem to screw up.

Or maybe the conspiracy theorists might be right. The "shadow" government which calls the shots in Washington is quite serious about thinning the [world's] population.

Not sure what's his point going there when he'll just talk. It's pretty useless for me. However, if he has another plan, then maybe it would be another story.

This is already the narrative in Russia's state controlled media, and has been since and even before Crimea. I believe there's even some segment of the Russian population that has been led to believe that US soldiers are on the ground in Ukraine, directly involved in the fighting.

So, since this narrative is already established, having the US actually get involved in some diplomatic capacity can't really cause any more damage, I think. The last week has seen quite loud op-eds coming from western press, openly talking of US support. McCain's bill adds to the fire as well.
