AMMAN — Under directives from His Majesty King Abdullah, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), the army has provided the Lebanese army with artillery weapons and tanks.

The military assistance was part of cooperation between the two armies, a military source said, quoted by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

A ceremony was held in Beirut on Monday to receive the Jordanian donation, attended by a JAF delegation, the source said.

Earlier this month, King Abdullah met with Lebanese Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk over “means to strengthen bilateral ties in a manner that serves the interests of the two countries and their people”.

Everyone is now arming the Lebanon army but against who? Hizbollah has deep influence inside Lebanon military establishment. Are these weapons directed at Israel for a retaliation in case of an attack?

It's to counter terror threats especially the ones from ISIS and Nusra.

Lebanon is very small in size mate. If ISIS and Nusra want to take over Lebanon they will do in a matter of days. The ongoing air strikes against ISIS is somehow ineffective and will remain so until we see boots on ground.

It's an anti-Israeli move. Of course there were some skirmishes on Lebanon's borders so these will be used as an excuse to arm Lebanon? Hezbollah is in cahoots with the Lebanese government. It's like Hezbollah is being armed by several nations now. Was the U.S's decision which opened the door for others to arm Lebanon a response to Netanyahu's spurning of Obama?
