The KRET concern has developed the ANS-2009 stellar navigation system for the Russia's Air Force Long-Rang Aviation's (LRA) strategic bombers, the company has revealed.

"ANS-2009 allows the high-precise calculation of the plane's co-ordinates, basing on stars' position" the source told IHS Jane's . The system's evaluation, integration and control unit (EICU) identifies true co-ordinates and flight course, using such data. "The system is intended to evaluate the object's speed and position, not depending on the flight duration," they added.

"This method is the most reliable in combat conditions, when navigation satellite systems can be put out of action by an enemy," the source pointed out.
