Kuwait Air Force commander Major General Abdullah al-Foudari confirmed to Reuters on 21 January that his service still intends to acquire Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet multirole fighters.

Maj Gen Foudari's comments appear to confirm that Kuwait intends to replace its existing fleet of F/A-18 Hornets with a larger fleet that includes both Super Hornets and Eurofighter Typhoons.

The Eurofighter consortium announced in September 2015 that Kuwait had agreed to buy 28 Typhoons.

Reuters reported that the proposed sale of 28 Super Hornets to Kuwait has been held up by delays in getting the deal approved by Congress.
