The US Air Force says the ballistic missile that targeted Saudi Arabia was Iranian
Nov. 10, 2017

  • Saudi Arabia was attacked by a ballistic missile fired from Yemen, but it intercepted the missile.
  • The missile was found to have Iranian markings.
  • This is just one of several beligerent acts between the two rivals in what looks like the run up to a larger crisis.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The ballistic missile fired by Yemeni rebels that targeted the Saudi capital was from Iran and bore "Iranian markings," the top U.S. Air Force official in the Mideast said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, who oversees the Air Forces Central Command in Qatar, made the comments at a news conference in Dubai.

Harrigian said authorities were investigating how the missile was smuggled into Yemen amid a Saudi-led coalition controlling the country's airspace, ports and borders.

After the Nov. 4 strike near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry said investigators examining the remains of the rocket found evidence proving "the role of Iranian regime in manufacturing them." It did not elaborate, though it also mentioned it found similar evidence after a July 22 missile launch. French President Emmanuel Macron similarly this week described the missile as "obviously" Iranian.

Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said in a statement Tuesday that the July launch involved an Iranian Qiam-1, a liquid-fueled, short-range Scud missile variant. Iran used a Qiam-1 in combat for the first time in June when it targeted Islamic State group militants in Syria over twin militant attacks in Tehran.

Harrigian declined to offer any specifics on what type of missile they believed it was.

Haouthis have got their hands on Iranian missiles smuggled through the port of Hudadiah. The funny thing is that no single missile have achieve its object. All have been intercepted by the Saudi air defense system PAC-3.

No matter how hard the Houthies try to inflict harm by launching missiles on Saudi Arabia they won't succeed. It seems likes the Iranian missile tech has failed to be effective against Saudi Arabia which means the entire missile program of Iran is a total failure. Iras is trying to test its missiles capability through the Houthies but as I mentioned earlier no single missile was able to out manoeuvre Saudi anti missile defense shield. In case of a real confrontation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Iran would want to wet its missiles and swallow them.

I would like to hear your points on what I said @AmirPatriot @Haman10 @Serpentine @Artesh.

Not a single evidence, again not a single one out there to prove that Iran has sent missiles to Yemen or that the fired missiles were Iranian. We don't expect the word of truth to come out of U.S or Saudi Arabia when it comes to Iran, which is natural. Saudi Arabia and their patron in Washington will do anything to frame Iran in their Yemen misadventure. Thus quoting U.S or Saudi Arabia about Iranian presence in Yemen is the least credible source one could use as an impartial source of news,

Yemen has had ballistic missiles for nearly 20 years now, buying from different suppliers like North Korea or Russia. Repainting the very same Scud missiles and launching them towards Saudi Arabia doesn't mean they are automatically Iranian.

Nonetheless, I support any Yemeni attempt to defend themselves against Saudi led coalition which has invaded their country.

Seems the independent UN commission doesn't agree with your rhetoric, and holds Iran in violation of an arms embargo imposed in April 2015. Ooops!

Exclusive: Yemen rebel missiles fired at Saudi Arabia appear Iranian - U.N.
Michelle Nichols
December 1, 2017

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Remnants of four ballistic missiles fired into Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Houthi rebels this year appear to have been designed and manufactured by Riyadh’s regional rival Iran, a confidential report by United Nations sanctions monitors said, bolstering a push by the United States to punish the Tehran government.

The independent panel of U.N. monitors, in a Nov. 24 report to the Security Council seen by Reuters on Thursday, said it “as yet has no evidence as to the identity of the broker or supplier” of the missiles, which were likely shipped to the Houthis in violation of a targeted U.N. arms embargo imposed in April 2015.

Earlier this month, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley accused Iran of supplying Houthi rebels with a missile that was fired into Saudi Arabia in July and called for the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for violating two U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The report said that monitors had visited two Saudi Arabian military bases to see remnants gathered by authorities from missile attacks on Saudi Arabia on May 19, July 22, July 26 and Nov. 4.

They also visited four “impact points” from the Nov. 4 attack where other remnants of the missiles were identified.
“Design characteristics and dimensions of the components inspected by the panel are consistent with those reported for the Iranian designed and manufactured Qiam-1 missile,” the monitors wrote.

The Qiam-1 has a range of almost 500 miles and can carry a 1,400-pound warhead, according to GlobalSecurity.org public policy organization.
Saudi-led forces, which back the Yemeni government, have fought the Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen’s more than two-year-long civil war. Saudi Arabia’s crown prince has described Iran’s supply of rockets to the Houthis as “direct military aggression” that could be an act of war.

SMUGGLING ROUTE
Iran has denied supplying the Houthis with weapons, saying the U.S. and Saudi allegations are “baseless and unfounded.” Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not
immediately respond to a request for comment on the U.N. monitors report.

Another ballistic missile was shot down on Thursday near the southwestern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait, the Saudi-owned al-Arabiya channel reported.
The U.N. monitors said they gathered evidence that the missiles were transferred to Yemen in pieces and assembled there by missile engineers with the Houthis and allied forces loyal to Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

“The panel has not yet seen any evidence of external missile specialists working in Yemen in support of the Houthi-Saleh engineers,” the monitors wrote.
They visited Saudi Arabia after the monitors called on the coalition to provide evidence backing Riyadh’s claim that Iran was supplying missiles to the Houthis, warning that a failure to do so would violate a U.N. resolution.

They said the missiles most likely were smuggled into Yemen along “the land routes from Oman or Ghaydah and Nishtun in al Mahrah governorate (in Yemen) after ship-to-shore transshipment to small dhows, a route that has already seen limited seizures of anti-tank guided weapons.”

The monitors also said that while “concealment in cargo of vessels offloading in the Red Sea ports is unlikely, it cannot be excluded as an option.”

The Saudi-led coalition used the Nov. 4 missile attack to justify a blockade of Yemen for several weeks, saying it was needed to stem the flow of arms to the Houthis from Iran.

The United Nations had said the blockade could spark the largest famine the world has seen in decades. Some 7 million people in Yemen are on the brink of famine, and nearly 900,000 have been infected with cholera.

This Tweet can disprove the whole bs given in the article.

That's not how investigations work, but it's how fake news can be portrayed as truth, and Reuters has a dark history in this regard when it comes to Iran.

And if we are to believe such reports, we should also believe these:

Confidential U.N. Document Questions the Saudi Arabian Blockade That’s Starving Yemen

In the assessment, made in a confidential brief and sent to diplomats on November 10, members of the Security Council-appointed panel said they had seen no evidence to support Saudi Arabia’s claims that short-range ballistic missiles have been transferred to Yemeni rebels in violation of Security Council resolutions.

A bit too much paradox in your rhetoric here?

You dig out a twitter post by Sharmine Narwani, a nobody, who just like you, is clutching at straws. Trying to deflect as usual, with baseless arguments.

Btw, Twitter is banned in Iran - can you tell the forum why?

Reuters didn't write the report, presented to the UN security council, neither did they designate Iran a "State sponsor of terrorism" https://www.state.gov/j/ct/list/c14151.htm

Terrorism, has been Iran's top export since 1979, so no surprises here. You, and the loony bin you quoted both, can deny the following reports as well, but luckily both your denials won't chnage ground realities.

As to the reports of famine and cholera, the sooner the wilayat al-faqih mullahs stop meddling every where, and stop exporting terrorism, the sooner the Middle East would be a better place. But feel free to deflect, and propagate their rhetoric.

Had it not been for the crazy mullahs, the houthis would have been content chewing khat.

I couldn't have said better myself @khafee

Yemen former army used to have 28 soviet era scud missiles and out of the sudden they were able to make about 300 and launched almost 80 missiles to Saudi Arabia in which all were intercepted. I was going to get into so much technical details and provide a comprehensive review for Iran support for terrorists but since the UN has officially point out that recent missiles fired at Saudi Arabia by houtties are Iranian made. Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has also acknowledged in a recent press conference Iran's support to Houthies. Hizbo and Iranians advisors have been caught in Yemen training Houthies how to use and fire missiles.

Iran role of supporting terror in the region is not something new. Iran has created, trained, support Iraqi shia militias, Hizbo militias and now using Afghans and Pakistanis Shia to fight in Syria. Evidence of Iranian terror ops throughout history are well documented and the country has be designated as state sponsor of terror. A country that storms embassies and hold diplomates as hostages will be the least to try to evade the charges. There is no single country in the region including Iran hasn't accused Iran of inciting violence and supporting terror so please spare me the nonsense and bring our phone back.

Just so you know that we are going to step on anyone that tries to undermine our security including Iran. The soviet scraps given to the Houthies have proven to be ineffective meaning that all Iran missiles are nothing to be worry about as they were made to be for pubic consumption.

Terrorism is a subjective issue. From our perspective and that of many victims throughout the world, it's the vile and ugly ideology exported by Saudi regime which is responsible for +95% of terrorist groups and terror ideologies. ISIS, Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabab, Al-Nusra, Ahrar al-sham, Jundullah and many other groups. Iran wasn't responsible for them.

Yes we do support Hezbollah, and proud of that, which is a crown over all Arab regimes and despotic states like Saudi Arabia.

Also, please spare me of quoting US state department as an impartial source for designating terrorists, as U.S itself is biggest state sponsor of terror, responsible for sufferings of millions of people, and it also supports backward, despotic states like Saudi Arabia which itself is the number one when it comes to exporting terrorist ideologies in the world like a virus.

Regarding Yemen and the famine and humanitarian disaster going on in there, you can bring as many excuses as you can and ignore all those sufferings of Yemenis imposed by Saudi regime and allies, and instead blame Iran for sectarian reasons (most likely case) or other possible personal hatred.

As you see, we are seeing things from a different perspective so I don't think more argument is going to change anything. We have had it before.

Good luck.

That is factually incorrect. Al Qaeda leaders happened to seek shelter in Iran. Some of Bin Laden family members are still living there. Taliban has got nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. Al-Shababa leader has on many occasions threatens to attack Saudi Arabia. Al-Nusra, Ahrar Al-Sahm, ISIS are all on the Saudi terror list. In fact mulitpls attacks have been carried out by ISIS in Saudi Arabia. Junduallah has got to do with Saudi Arabia either. Just because the said groups are claiming to follow a Islam means all are related/ supported by Saudi Arabia. The UN as a whole affirm Saudi Arabia fight on terror and the EU has many times recognized Saudis effort in this area. But if you are going to trash all this and believe your mullah rhetoric given all Iran black history then I feel sorry for you and for insulting your own intelligence. If dig in YouTube will find countless of Iranian mullahs, military commanders threatening to invade Saudi Arabia and get a grip of the holy sites. Do you think that is how a country should behave? You recently broke into our embassy and destroyed its belongings under the sight of the authority. That is a form of terror and a violation to international conventions. You wonder why the US, EU, Canada, Argentina...etc have no embassies Iran.

Saudi Arabia is backward? since when? The country is leading the ME in terms of education, infrastructure, GDP and economic growth.

Yemen Houthies are blocking most of aid from entering the effected area to get international attention and that has been acknowledged by the UN.

Yemen current government is a legitimate government as recognized by UN. I would refer you to the UN resolution 2216. Stop the crocodile tears for the Yemenis. Don't go too far Syria is next door. I don't see you crying or denouncing Assad ruthless regime and their supporters.

Terrorism is not subjective at all, Iran officially is a supporter of terrorism.

You can blame the Saudis, but no one will believe your rhetoric, because of the overwhelming evidence against the wilayat al-faqih mullahs, as seen below:

1) Taliban Leader Mullah Mansoor, before his death was coming from Iran.
2) Gulbadeen Hikmatyar, before reconciling with the current Afgh Govt, was living in Iran
3) Indian Spy Kulbhushan Jadev aka Mubarak Patel, was operating out of Iran, spreading terrorism inside Pakistan
4) Baba Ladla - Karachi based terrorist had Iranian nationality
5) Uzair Baloch - Terrorist arrested on an Iranian Passport, Admitted in Paksitani High court, to being an Iranian Agent
6) Fatimiyoun Militia - Afghani Shia Militia armed, trained, and controlled by Iran
7) Zainabiyoun Miltiia - Pakistani Shia Militia armed, trained, and controlled by Iran
8) Hezbollah - Lebanese Shia Militia armed, trained, and controlled by Iran

Also, please spare me of quoting US state department as an impartial source for designating terrorists, as U.S itself is biggest state sponsor of terror, responsible for sufferings of millions of people, and it also supports backward, despotic states like Saudi Arabia which itself is the number one when it comes to exporting terrorist ideologies in the world like a virus.
Empty Rhetoric. You can deflect, clutch at straws, cry wolf, but ground realities don't change, and Iran remains a terrorism exporting pariah state.

See map below, the port of Hudaydah, is OPEN, and under Houthi control, so why don't you ship them food, instead of arms? The suffering of the Yemeni people is directly because of the Wilayat al-faqih mullah, other wise the only thing the Houthis are capable of is chewing Khat, as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Yes Thank God for his infinite mercies, that I'm not high on Wilayat al-faqih mullah rhetoric. Unfortunately, for Iranians the whole planet is wrong, and against them.

Mullahs can spew anything, but it is their blind followers I pity more, for being led like sheep / cannon fodder.

BUT do not don't stop on my account, show the world your true colors. Without your rhetoric, the world would be such a dull place.

Good luck.
Seems you are going to need it, your two monkeys are at each others throats again in Yemen. Now don't go spanking your monkey.
