Maguindanao in southern Philippines recently held a convention attended by the governor and more than a thousand Muslim clerics, majority of whom are women. Governor Esmael Mangudadatu drafted measures on how to be effective in fighting religious extemism in the country. This is obviously geared towards the rumor that ISIS is trying to establish a base in the southern part of the country.

isis is everywhere and it is a shocking thing to know that they are taking over the world little by little without anyone noticing. they will be in the smaller areas for the longest so that they can takeover the people to convince them to work for isis.

It's good that the Muslim community in the Philippines is willing to work with the government to fight extremism.

It certainly can make it harder for terrorists to set up cells in the country but considering how people can be radicalized online, recruited and used for lone wolf attacks, the Philippine government also should closely monitor those who visit sites or follow social media accounts that belong to terrorist organizations or people who support them.

It's good to know that the government of Philippines has publicly condemned Islamic extremism. I seriously hope that this will serve as a deterrant against potential IS recruiters in the Philippines. But as @Redheart said, the true threat of IS is their prominent online presence. Unless their cyber cells are busted, they cannot be controlled as effectively as people would like.

There are several insurgent groups in the Mindanao area that seek for financial backing so it's little wonder if wealthy extremist groups like ISIS could build a network in the country and offer support. The local government and their defense partners like the ASEAN and the United States should be more vigilant so that ISIS would not be able to penetrate any Southeast Asian country.

If only that were true! ~-~

Terrorists in the modern age have grown so much because the community they belonged to didn't raise their voices against them, and either played the 'they're a fringe minority, not like us!' card, ignored them completely, or worse still, have openly supported them. While a whole world of moderate and peace-loving humans standing hand-in-hand to combat extremism sounds like a great idea, the actual chances of it bearing fruit are pretty slim. This is just the way we are.
