The Burmese ordered 6 Su-30SME back in 2018 for $400 Million which the first will be delivered by next year. This Russia's second largest contract with Myanmar after the sale of 12 Yak-130 light attack aircraft and light trainer. some experts believe Myanmar might order additional Su-30SMEs. This also puts into question whether or not Bangladesh will still acquire the SME for themselves or move towards the J-10C

How may have are they aiming to acquire in total? $400 for six plus life cycle maintenance, that seems reasonable. What is the SMEs version?

no total amount been announced but I think they would acquire something like 20+ overall, and the SME is the export version of the SM.

It seems like the jf-17 deal is not going through unless its going to be assigned to different role. Weird mixture of platforms. how is Russia giving its top notch tech to a country like Maynmar!

@WebMaster we are just making a sale and the SME is quite downgraded compared to the Su-30SM flown by the RuAF. we are not a "top notch" supplier to Myanmar as compared to China, who has actually provided them more advanced technology compared to us. we might make a sale here or there with them, but still not on the level of the Chinese, considering it is theoretically a satellite state of Chinese influence.

Can you post some specs of the SME?

Myanmar Air Force officially inducts new JF-17 fighter jets
Monday, 17 December 2018

Myanmar Air Force has inaugurated a total of seven new aircrafts and helicopters into the force to mark the 71st anniversary of the founding of the Air Force, according to a release of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Sunday.

Attended by Defense Services Commander-in-Chief Sen-Gen Min Aung Hlaing and Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force General Maung Maung Kyaw, the commemorative ceremony was held at the fight training base in Meiktila Sunday.
"
On the 71st anniversary of Tatmadaw (Air), a significant and honourable day for the State and the Tatmadaw, four JF-17 aircraft and two ATR 72-500 aircraft and one Eurocopter totalling seven were commissioned into service at the Flying Training Base in Meiktila Station this morning," the Myanmar Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services press office said.

The new aircrafts and helicopters conducted a demonstration fly-by and aerobatic display, which was followed by the inspection of the inaugurated aircrafts by Min Aung Hlaing with the release of 70 birds as merit making according to traditional practices.

Myanmar Air Force was established on Dec. 15, 1947, a year before Myanmar regained independence.

In July 2015, Myanmar became the first export customer of the JF-17 Thunder with an order for 16 Block II variants. The JF-17 fighter aircraft will replace Myanmar Air Force aged fleet of 16 Nanchang A-5IIK ground attack aircraft and 24 Chengdu F-7M fighter jets received from China in the 1990s.

The PAC JF-17 Thunder is a light-weight, single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Air Force, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and the Chengdu Aircraft Industries Corporation (CAC) of China.

The JF-17 is powered by a single Russian RD-93 turbofan engine, which is a variant of the RD-33 engine used on the Mig-29 fighter. The JF-17 can carry a weapon payload of 3,600 kg under its seven wing and fuselage pylons.

SME details
-operational range of 1,280 km at sea-level and at a speed of 800 km/h; of 3,000 km flying at a high altitude and at a speed of 900 km/h; and of 5,600 km with one air refuelling contact.
- take-off weight of 26,090 kg, a maximum take-off weight of 34,000 kg
-uses the Bars-R radar
-satellite navigation system compatible with the GLONASS and NAVSTAR formats.
-Helmet mounted target designator

also do not hold me onto this, but according to rumours Myanmar might have some features of the MKI added to their SME (I do not know for surely though) and HAL might be in control of helping maintain their SME fleet too.

Myanmar been on jet buying spree lately. a contract for JF-17s, Su-30SMEs and procuring additional K-8s. and now rumours have it they have 6 FTC-2000G jets and in talks for J-10s to replace their Fulcrum fleet.
this is starting to become an interesting arms race with Myanmar and Bangladesh
