Just a question. Why dont we get China's fifth generation fighter in a squadron worth of number. China will sell surely sell it to us no? Does it not cater to our needs...

J-31 is not yet operational and China does not want to sell J-20's to any country at the moment same way as USA does not sell Raptors....

Secondly can we afford J-20's, at the most what we can look upto is, Chinese collaboration in Project Azm. We should be looking for some heavy twin engines....

The indian rafales come with those meteor missiles which have a NEZ of 60 km and range of 150 km. The Aim 120 C-5 in PAF inventory falls short of the meteors max range by 50km. So our F16s will be in a disadvantage when facing off the Rafale in a bvr shootout. The solution lies in getting a more latest missile in the AMRAAM series. We cannot fit Pl15s(comparable to meateor) onto our f16s. So in a way our jf17 block3s are in a better position to take on Rafale than the f16. Am I missing something here?

These days air battles are not that simple, awacs and Ew platforms are as important as the fighters......plus IAF would need at least 3 to 5 years to train and then strategize on the Rafales

Look , They can take 20 years to strategise but their planners will recognize the same fact I pointed out above i.e. the differential in max ranges of both missiles and they will use it to their advantage.On Feb 27 anyone with inside knowledge will tell you that it was part of our strategy to stay the hell away from their mirage 2000s which had been equiped with meteors. Our superior AIM 120 C-5s was the only reason we got the alleged Su30 kill. We could get closer but they could not.

Cheaper than EU I forget the BVRAAM that india was thinking for his Mirage 2000 after 27 Feb replace his MICA
