KARACHI: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Thursday discussed ways to expedite work on the Kingdom’s investment projects pledged under the $21 billion deals signed between the two countries in February this year.

A Saudi delegation headed by the Kingdom’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer met Prime Minister’s Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Chairman Board of Investment (BoI) Zubair Gilani to review progress on the implementation of investment projects.

“The visiting Saudi delegation held discussions to expedite projects in energy, petroleum and mining sectors,” a BoI official, who declined to be named, told Arab News.
During the meeting, the Saudi “delegation appreciated the progress on the investment front made during the previous year and described it as more the combined progress of the last ten years,” the official added.

Pakistan has also offered Saudi investors to explore investment opportunities in power sector which has already been identified for privatization.

Saudi Arabia is also interested in the mining sector, especially in the mineral resources of the country’s southwestern Balochistan province. “Mining in Balochistan is a provincial subject but the BoI has assured full support to Saudi investors. Where the potential exists, the BoI will support the implementation of projects,” the official informed.

Faced with energy shortage, Pakistan is taking steps to increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix which is dominated by fossil fuel at present. “During the meeting it was also decided to speed up the progress on the project for renewable power generation in Balochistan,” the official said.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had signed seven investment agreements during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s official visit to Islamabad in February this year.

These consist of a mega oil refinery that will be constructed in Pakistan’s Balochistan province for $11 billion and will house a petrochemical complex project in Gwadar deep-sea port.

The proposed mega oil refinery and petrochemical complex to be set up by Saudi Arabia will help Pakistan with technology, skill enhancement and human capital development. It will also result in employment generation and development of downstream, allied sectors.

Completion of these projects will leave no place for fake media to hide.
This out of control Pakistani media, needs to be reigned in Gen.Zia style.

I don't know why the center cannot just get done with this provincial bs. This seriously needs to stop before it hurts Pakistan anymore.

The current Consituition is a big hurdle in PakDevelopment. It has essentially turned Pakistan into confederation of five countries. Without a central powerful governmet we will remain in this mess.

Smaller provinces with direct election of governors and direct election of President of Pakistan... with % presentation of the seats in the assemblies... instead of now... constituitencies...where these unionists/feudals/pirs are holding the state hostage.

Unified educational system, single standards organisation, single law giving body... development funds go directly to district levels..without any middleman or coconut babuz... also, there needs to a nation wide development plan.. A State wide policy instead having these stupid projects all over the country.

But for this to happen IK needs to call for refrendum and form new assemblies...

A constitution should be for the people, or people should be for the constitution?

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Discuss Cooperation in Energy, Mining
Friday, 6 September, 2019

A high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan held talks in Islamabad on Friday to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in the fields of refining, mining and renewable energy.

The Pakistani side was represented in the talks by Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan, while the Kingdom's delegation was represented by Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs Eng. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer.

At the outset of the talks, the Minister Ayub welcomed the Saudi delegation, stressing that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Ayub said that Pakistan considers its relations with Saudi Arabia as long-standing fraternal relations rooted in the depth of history and have multiple economic, political and strategic dimensions.

He also said relations with the Kingdom cannot be compared with relations with any other country.

Sir that is one big puzzle that I have never been able to solve or even understand. The ones who carry big say in Pakistani politics (not the awam), why would they not let a majority government be formed? It is not like that they are angels who haven't gone against their oath in the past .......... but why not when it is for good of common Pakistanis? Are they afraid or are they waiting for doomsday? Even this government's cabinet is overshadowed by what they had in Musharraf's times.

If Bugti couldn't stand against the state ............ then the rest of these Sindh and Punjab k waderay are nothing.
